Laurie Smith, who has been Sheriff of Santa Clara County, California (San Jose) since 1998, has been found guilty of corruption charges after it was revealed that she was giving concealed carry permits to election donors. She was also found guilty of not responding to requests for information about the deaths of mentally ill detainees in Sheriff’s custody.

Interesting mix of jurisdictions, presumably because Santa Clara County was too tainted with her influence. It was a San Francisco ADA prosecuting this civil case, in a San Mateo county court. The guilty verdicts would be enough to remove her from office, which was the point of the trial, but she resigned on Monday, while the jury was still deliberating. She could be liable for criminal charges, I’m not sure who would determine whether that happens, considering her (now previous) influence in the county.
Just wait till they learn about civil forfeiture.
Controversial, or just stupid?
Why are they using live ammo in a training session?
My first thought is, was the guy who got shot involved in any whistleblowing cases?
Female. The stupid fuckwit shot a female cop.
A man was handcuffed for not telling an officer his name/DoB. She pulled over and confronted him because she thought she saw a gun sticking out of his pocket – it was a folded-up cane.
He shows it to her and then she insists on his name and DoB, to which he replies that he is not doing anything wrong so, no. She asks why he is being a dick to her, to which he replies, because she is being a dick to him.
So, be careful out there, you might end up arrested for being where they can see you.
Lawsuit time.
Those cops are f-ing tyrants. I hope he gets a big settlement out of this.
She even admitted she’s a tyrant!
And people wonder why cops are getting a bad rep these days. Are there any good apples left? I think the few bad apples have spoiled those whole damn bunch.
Praise the Lord!!!
Of course, his opponent could be every much a tyrant criminal as him…but YAY!!!
Another development in the story of cops letting a suspect get hit by a train while hand cuffed in a police car.
Officer Jordan Steinke, from the Fort Lupton Police Department, is accused of attempted manslaughter and second-degree assault, both felonies, the Weld County District Attorney’s Office said. She also faces one count of reckless endangerment, a misdemeanor.
Sgt. Pablo Vazquez, of the Platteville Police Department, faces five counts of reckless endangerment, one count of obstructing a highway or other passageway, one count of careless driving and one count of parking where prohibited, all misdemeanors, the DA’s office said.
So a misdemeanor for parking your car on the tracks, and a felony for putting somebody in that car.
Can’t help but wonder of the criteria for selecting 'cop of the month.
What’s the mens rea for attempted manslaughter? I haven’t read anything that indicates he actually intended any harm to come to her.
Yep, just as we have been saying…
One of the most notoriously corrupt agents in the history of the Drug Enforcement Administration’s history says he was one of many who skimmed millions and partied like the criminals they were trying to nab.
Is it a controversial opinion that cops shouldn’t shoot their students?
Officer Eric Ruch Jr. shot and killed 25-year-old Dennis Plowden Jr. six seconds after arriving on the scene as Plowden sat on a sidewalk upon crashing a car during a high-speed chase. He was fired from the department months later.
Less than 2 years. Fuck.
The footage from the sheriff’s office of the Sept. 3 incident was released by Daniels. It shows Jarrett Hobbs standing in a holding cell when an officer enters, seemingly grabbing Hobbs by the neck. Four more officers come in, one of whom begins to punch Hobbs in the back of the neck before other officers join in the attack.
The gun “accidentally” discharged. When are they going to stop using that word?
Wasn’t there a governor or top state police official some years ago who decreed that the police in his state would no longer use the term “traffic accident” but “crash” instead because “there’s always a reason the crash happens”? I think that’s a good stance on this, too.
