Controversial encounters between law-enforcement and civilians - the omnibus thread #2

Some closure for a family.

Texas officer convicted in killing of Atatiana Jefferson

A former Texas police officer was convicted of manslaughter Thursday for fatally shooting Atatiana Jefferson through a rear window of her home in 2019, a rare conviction of an officer for killing someone who was also armed with a gun.

Dean, 38, faces up to 20 years in prison, with the sentencing phase of his trial set to begin Friday. He had faced up to life in prison if convicted of murder.

Maybe only tangentially right for this thread, but it disgusted me enough that I had to share:

A Texas police officer, who first lost his job in 2016 after giving a homeless man a feces sandwich, has been fired by a second Texan police department, reports said.

He was later given a second indefinite suspension following an investigation into a separate incident in which he allegedly failed to flush feces down a toilet in the women’s restroom at the downtown bike patrol office and spread a “brown tapioca-like substance” on the seat.

Lovely.

He seems to have a bit of a fetish with feces. Or the color brown.

Funny thing, I have never noticed weed having an analgesic effect. If anything, it does the opposite for me.

Sources told the news outlet that Cauthron’s vehicle was going about 86 miles per hour during the chase of suspect Tyquel Zanders, who is accused of stealing a family member’s car. Sources also told the news station the police officer did not apply the brakes before hitting the car the girls were in.

It doesn’t so anything about the pain for me, it just makes it so I don’t care that I’m in agony.

If he dies, do any fines go against his estate?

Indiana cops have dropped all charges against a guy they’ve been trying to prosecute for two years after they went into his house without a warrant and he pulled a gun. The individual cops also sued the guy’s wife for posts she made on social media.

From that article:

Shelia Jackson wanted her son who has autism to feel comfortable around police officers.
Her uncle was an officer and she has a lot of respect for what they do.
“I wanted him to have a positive view of police officers and not all the negativity he sees on TV,” Jackson said.

I wonder how that’s working out.

At least he didn’t see it on TV, he got to see it up close and personal.

I feel bad for the mother. She really thought that she was doing something good for both her child and her community. The cops chose to turn that into a traumatic experience for the whole family.

But, he walked away when she was talking to him! Don’t you see??

Pretty rare to see such an EXACT example of irony.

Yeah, seriously. Alanis Morissette! Pay attention!

Maybe all tennis instructors should be trained in take down and restraining techniques, and issued a taser and cuffs.

OTOH, the son has been granted a very clear view of police officers, and how he should choose to interact with them.
