Controversial encounters between law-enforcement and civilians - the omnibus thread #2

I guess the punishment for a cop making a racist false 911 call is to be allowed to retire with full pension. I doubt it hurts his cause that he is the nephew of the former police chief. :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

When qualified immunity isn’t enough, cops can now invoke Stand Your Ground laws (in Georgia, maybe):

The Tennessee cop who ripped the mask off the guy who was recording a cop encounter has been terminated.

I imagine for some folks, the solution to this is to ban cellphone videos.

NOTE: this is NOT the same story I linked to a few hours ago:

I’ll put this here too:

Florida sheriff named Darryl, what could possibly go wronger.

And this is my other brother Darryl.

So apparently if you’re black you not only aren’t safe calling the police for an emergency, you aren’t safe calling an ambulance…

(this has gotten as far as the Australian facebook ecosystem which doesn’t often happen … it’s pretty horrifying)

I know you won’t believe this, but a Sheriff’s Deputy lied when he said a black man attacked him. Instead, body cam footage shows he attacked the black man.

Strickland, who was working as a security guard during the NBA Finals, initially filed a lawsuit against Ujiri in February alleging that the Raptors executive aggressively confronted him and “hit him in the face and chest with both fists.”

However, video of their encounter showed that Strickland twice pushed Ujiri as he tried to show his credentials and get through a guarded area after the Raptors defeated the Golden State Warriors to win the NBA Finals in Oakland, Calif. The 20-second clip showed Strickland repeatedly shoving Ujiri as he walked to the court.

And it took this long for this video to be presented because … ?

I watched the video, that black man deliberately attacked the officers hands with his chest.

Did we cover this one? I don’t recall seeing it:

Its official. Cops are racist thugs.

# White Georgia cop says he did nothing wrong in body-slamming Black man, breaking his wrist

Black, standing and calmly talking with a white officer, when a different white officer comes up behind him, grabs him in a bear hug and body slammed him to the ground.

According to attorneys, Wheeler believed Smith was that man and had an outstanding arrest warrant, the Associated Press reported. That was not the case, and the man with the warrant had been detained nearby.

Racist, violent AND incompetent. Trifecta!

Wheeler’s lawyers described their client’s actions as “objectively reasonable,” according to the AP.

Objectively reasonable.

Violent, unnecessary, and the wrong fucking guy. ‘Reasonable’ has lost all meaning.

“I’m going to (expletive) choke you out, bro,” Smelser told Valenzuela, which can be heard in police footage.

Smelser was fired after the autopsy was released and charged with involuntary manslaughter, a fourth-degree felony, before the Attorney General’s office upgraded the charge to second-degree murder.

Involuntary manslaughter. He told him what he was gonna do, then he did it. Where was the involuntary part? At least they upped the charge, probably due to pressure from citizens

There are four types of people who join the military. For some, it’s a family trade. Others are patriots, eager to serve. Next, you have those who just need a job. Then there’s the kind who want a legal means of killing other people.

Jack Reacher quote. Seems to apply pretty well to cops.

Here’s video:

Why the fuck do you show up in riot gear and a battering ram for a 16 yr old kid suspected of breaking into cars???

Oh, let me guess/ He’s black?
