I’m trying to turn an .aif sound file into an mp3 (or wav file, I suppose) on a Mac OS X. I’ve tried several downloadable pieces of software, but either the Mac doesn’t know how to open them, or they quit on me just as they’re about to do the conversion. Has anyone had success doing this? Any suggestions as to what I might try?
Thanks in advance–
Zahava
I do it all the time using Audion. A more mainstream solution would be to open the AIFF in iTunes and do your conversion there, but I hate iTunes.
As above - just do it in iTunes. Drag your .aif file to iTunes and select ‘Convert Selection To…’ from the Advanced menu (or select it from the contextual menu). What you want to convert the file to can be selected in the ‘Importing’ pane of iTunes preferences.
Also worth noting this will leave you with 2 files in iTunes - the original .aif and the MP3 (or AAC or WAV or whatever your importing preference is set to).

Thanks so much. I’ll try this and let you know if it works out.
