I am waiting unless the first price drop to buy as the games are just not that compelling and i have a full backlog of 360 and PS3 titles to get through.
From a purely “on paper” comparison the PS4 has a VERY slight edge in performance (but do not forget the faster and better optimized memory on the Xbox ).
From a realistic comparison, most people would be hard pressed to tell the differences in performance.
Personal opinion but the PS4 is sexier and is definitely smaller.
Personal opinion but most would agree that the Xbox interface blows away the PS4.
The Kinect is MUCH better on the Xbox One that it EVER was on the 360 but there is an extra 100 cost to that.
If you wait like me, you just might be able to get both for just a bit more than one currently
But if I have to pick then its easy… Xbox, better interface, integration and experience for me.
I read much more bias in your synopsis and interpretation than anything “factual”. Nonetheless I (as a developer in the non gaming space) will find a much better experience with the Xbox One than the PS4. In fact, just like last generation (where I have two of both) it is not even close.
The PS4 has a technical EDGE that most people will not even notice but offers - in almost every other category - a worse gaming experience. And for the record, IMO you read the Ars article with YOUR bias on and - ironically - made your outlandish claims of bias.
I’m curious about the media center features and how they perform. My HTPC is dying I was hoping to wait until at least next year to decide on another HTPC, a Steam machine or a console for my TV, but I’m going to need something soon.
Anyone care ton share their experience with the Xbone in a non-gaming context?
Right now the PS4 is an extension of my PS3 gaming experience. I still have GTA V to get through and a number of PS plus free games that haven’t had a first boot. Downloaded them before they got taken out of the rotation. Airk is doling out good advice with the wait and see approach. I knew I wanted to play Killzone: Shadow Fall and Knack looked interesting. That’s why I splurged.
With the exception of the Blue Light of Death on my first console, my experience with the PS4 has been good. It’s not life changing. Went ahead got another as a Christmas present for my nephew and bought protection plans just in case.
Protection plan extends warranty by 2 years. When my PS3 BD drive failed, it cost me $150 to get it fixed. Just a little peace of mind.
Incidentally, when Best Buy was talking up their protection plan(mine is through Sony), the sales associate “quoted” a 20-30% failure rate. Pretty sure he was exaggerating.
PSN took a beating yesterday as all the new PS4s people opened on xmas were trying to open accounts, log on etc… en masse. Was there a similar issue on XBL?
Either way I did manage to get everything up an running pretty painlessly and played my only game, Killzone Shadowfall. The graphics are very nice and the controls are much better than the previous versions. Not as heavy. My only issue, and this is kind of a doozy, is I can’t see the Helghast. The graphics are so lush and detailed now that I have a very hard time seeing them in foliage and/or shadows even when they are obliterating me with gunfire from every direction. Also feels like the checkpoints are much further apart in this one than in the past too.
Downloaded Resogun and Contrast (which are the free games for PS+) Haven’t played either of them yet though.
