How did I hijack this thread? An offhand “ugh” at what I thought was someone proclaiming that this console generation would last a long time? (Which, incidentally, should also upset serious console gamers too) My participation in this thread has generally been limited to proclaiming the superiority of the playstation 4’s hardware, which is entirely relevant to the thread.
Look, I could care less what you think. Not interested in engaging your whiny self on this subject.
I will say, that I get to voice my opinion on threads like these. You don’t get to tell me what threads I can participate in, ok?
I have opinions that I like to share and that some might like me to share on these machines. And yes I’m mostly a PC gamer and I can’t help but view consoles through that lens, but that doesn’t invalidate my opinions just 'cause you think it should. I haven’t brought up the PC in anywya that could be considered threadshitting here, except by the likes of you.
In fact we were all having a perfectly fine conversation until you jumped in whining about me posting why for me, personally, a console isn’t in the cards until next year.
Yeah, so, I’m right. You coming into a console thread to have the exact same battle over the exact same PC crap with the same people every time one shows up in the Game Room is annoying. I can express my opinion of that just like you can redundantly restate your opinion of console inferiority in every gaming thread on the SDMB.
I’ve said it before but I actually do like your posts and find them informative and enjoyable, except these. It’s really off putting and the same tired hijack does derail threads, even if YOU think the main subject is closed. Alot of times the main discussion of threads on SDMB doesn’t actually complete, hijacks that last a page and half tend to scare people away from posting on subject because well thought out posts get left behind by hijack banter.
I guess I’m hijacking the hijack now though so I’ll see you in the next console thread!
Right, Square Enix is a huge publisher, even cutting out their first party games like Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts, you can’t forget that they published Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Sleeping Dogs, Tomb Raider, and a bunch of other stuff.
There’s also a little studio called “From Software” that developed this game you’ve probably never heard of called Dark Souls.
The Japanese market is definitely smaller than it once was, and there are fewer powerhouse Japanese developers, but Japanese publishers are huge. However, none of these segments are totally irrelevant.
Besides, a lot of these games that don’t move many units are definitely profitable. Platinum games tends to sell very few copies of its games, but they almost always make at least a modest profit (it helps that they’re good at developing on a budget).
Keep in mind that there are quite a few games that the XBox will be sharing with the PC, as is tradition for the XBox. Definitely an advantage for those with more western tastes for gaming.
I disagree; I think this is a huge disadvantage for the Xbox One, because if you want to play those games, odds are they’ll be better on the PC. On the flipside, it’s unlikely you’re going be seeing, oh, I dunno, Guilty Gear Xrd Sign on PC, ever. Japan is likely to continue publishing exclusively for Sony platforms outside of their biggest releases and the ones that are actually Western games that they’re publishing (Mostly Square Enix stuff here.)
This is starting to change actually as Japanese developers are being approached by PC publishers, and more and more of them are realizing that, gee, publishing on the PC is EASIER than on the console and there’s money it.
The Dark Souls devs went from: “PC what?” To “Ok, here’s a half assed port, sorry, it’;s the best we can do, we don’t know much about PC” (which the community then took and improved drastically) To “Dark Soul’s 2 lead development platform is the PC”.
Which I don’t think means it’s their main priority, but does mean they’re going to release a proper PC game with the sequel.
Valve has also mentioned interest in getting Japanese devs on board for Steam OS. So things might change, and oddly enough the PC actually has some Japanese EXCLUSIVES of it’s own - which I only found about recently (and no I don’t just mean the huge load of “Adult” Japanese out there).
Rather than start a new thread, I see there’s some Nintendo talk in here… so I’ll pose this question of opinion here.
I really don’t know what to do. Since I was 5 I’ve only had Nintendo machines. All the consoles from NES to Wii, Various Game Boy’s, GBA, (I DID miss out on the Virtual Boy), DSPhat, DSlite, 3DSXL. I think Nintendo is the best publisher of games in the business.
But I missed out on Sega, and later on PS1/2/3, XB, XB360.
Which I should buy FIRST, a WiiU or a PS4/XBoxOne? And how long should I wait to get them? Will Wii U see another prise drop? Or are we likely to see it hold it’s own?
The one thing I know is that there are multiple games I want on a Wii U, and The only other game’s I know on the PS4/XBoxOne are Assassin’s Creed, (which I could get on a Wii U, but probably the worst version of it), and Killer instinct which I only know of because it use to be a Nintendo exclusive title.
Any suggestions on how I will get to most out of this gen? I don’t have a lot of money to spend, so it will be a while before I can afford two systems.
Well, I mean, if you;ve already got WiiU games to look forward to, I think that system is probably your best bet.
On the other hand, it seems like you’ve been stuck in that universe and haven’t experienced the other side" It may be that you like that side just as much or more. Certainly, for the most part, the types of games and experiences are quite different that what you’d find on a nintendo system… at least from my perspective - which I should point out is of one who hasn’t played a nintendo system for more than an hour since the n64.
Why not dip your toes in the water with a used last gen 360 or Ps3? You can probably pick one up for under $100 and then just visit ye old bargain bin.
The Wii U just received a price drop a few weeks ago. It’s unlikely another will happen anytime in the next 12 months. If you’re looking for the best deal and you’re looking to buy in the next few months, the price you pay today will be the same price you pay in a few months.
If you want multiple games on the Wii U and only Killer Instinct on the Xbox One, the choice seems pretty clear. Get the Wii U. As for Black Flag, Ubisoft has said that every console’s version of the game is identical, gameplay-wise. The only difference is graphical prettiness. Though it should be noted that the Wii U version won’t be getting the DLC expansions.
In your situation, I’d suggest a Wii U now and an Xbox One after a price drop. And if Super Mario 3D World is one of the games you’re looking at, get it, it is so good.
I haven’t experienced the “other side” I would most likely get a PS4 after the Wii U, (or before). Yes, I KNOW OF Killer Instinct, I didn’t say I wanted it. The PS4 is the system I would go for because I’m not interested in Kinect, (I prefer Sony’s answer to Motion Controls), It seems to be what all my friends will be getting, and I don’t want to pay for online. But I want to see how this all fairs out. I know I won’t be getting a new system by Christmas time, so I guess I’ll have to wait for next year. Maybe by then I will have more perspective.
The only reason why I would ditch Nintendo now is because I have a feeling it will be real cheep a lot sooner then the other two. Into next year, it’s up to Sony or Microsoft to change my mind.
I will eventually get both systems this Gen, I’m sure, but right now, Link on the 3DS is going to take some time. So I’m content.
I can maybe even wait 12 months to see if Wii U’s price goes down. I’m jilted with Nintendo, and I think the end of this year we’ll see a game drought once Kong and Kart are out.
MyFootsZZZ, I don’t think you’ve been keeping up with the next-gen news.
-
You WILL have to pay for online on the PS4. It’s not going to be free anymore.
-
The Wii U is not in danger of failing anytime soon. It will always be lower than the PS4/Xbox One, but Nintendo has too many games coming out for it to be an outright failure.
-
Nintendo is setting up lots of Wii U releases for 2014. Donkey Kong in January. Kart 8 in the Spring. Smash Bros. 4 after that. Bayonetta 2 sometime after that. Xenoblade 2 possibly by the end of the year. Zelda Wii U possibly by the end of the year. Yarn Yohsi mixed in there too.
Nintendo might be developing for the Wii U by themselves, but after everything they’ve announced, there definitely won’t be a drought like the N64 and GameCube saw.
The Wii has game droughts too.
You’re right, I don’t know much about it. Do you have to pay to download Netflix or games on both of them?
Netflix only requires an additional charge (an Xbox Live Gold subscription) on the Xbox One. It is free to use (provided you already pay for Netflix streaming) through the Wii U and PS4.
All platforms have free-to-play games and all platforms have paid downloadable games. But if you’re referring to online play, it is free on the Wii U and a paid subscription on the PS4 and Xbox One.
Walked into gamestop this morning to get a deeply discounted vita memory card and left with a ps4! Dude mentioned they still had one in back so I grabbed it. They held a few for black friday I guess. Lucky me.
I bought a PS4 because it’s designed to play games well. The XBone is designed to do all sorts of things that I don’t want or need.
That’s great and all, but why would you buy one now when there are basically still no games for it?
Aside the cable box integration of the Xbox One, they do the same non-game things.
It’s new and shiny?
