I am going to enter a local contest and want to pick the category of unusual ingredient cookies. I have a few ideas but does anyone have any cookies they know of with unusual ingredients that are good?
Can’t help on the ingredients but I have always wanted to make “Ninja Bread Men”
I’ve never made them myself, but I have always thought candied bacon and chocolate-chip cookies sound intriguing.

How unusual? Are we talking orange-and-cardamom unusual (not that odd, but not common in the US), or like garlic chocolate-chip weird? I’ve made the former (sometimes without the orange–it’s a Swedish cookie) but never the latter (I just googled it as it seemed like a reasonable idea, and there’s a number of recipes out there that look promising.)
I’ve made Mexican fudge, with coffee, cinnamon, and jalapenos added to the chocolate. You could do the same with a chocolate cookie or brownie recipe.
I’ve not used this specific recipe, but it seems similar to the one that I have for Tomato Soup Cookies.
Oh, that sounds yummy. Rosemary + sweet is a combination I like a lot.
If you could blend lemon with either rosemary or basil, I bet it’d be awesome. I had a semi-freddo in such a combination that was sublime. I bet it’d make a good cookie or bar too.
Make standard chocoate cookie recipe.
Add some chopped hot peppers.
Cook as usual.
I once had lentil and oatmeal cookies and they were good. Lentils + Oats = Complete protein, but I was surprise how good they were too. You can add chocolate chips too.
I have a couple recipes using crushed Sun Chips, and crushed potato chips. But in the world of cookie-baking, those aren’t too unusual.
I’ve seen several cookies in the last few years that use herbs with a more savory tradition, basil, rosemary, sage, etc. I’ve even seen a cookie that used instant chai tea powder.
Does it need to be an unpublished recipe? I’ve made curry refrigerator cookies from the Fannie Farmer cookbook.
