Cookies

I am using an IBM Aptiva and running Windows 98. How do I delete the built up cookies? Thanks

I learned the hard way not to worry about the thousands and thousands of cookies. They don’t take up that much memory, and if you try to delete all 20 bazillion of them, first, it locks up the computer while it tries to deal with 20 bazillion “Deletes”, and second, you find out during the following days that all your Favorite websites don’t seem to recognize you. Like the SDMB–you never realized how important that cookie was until you tried to post a response to a really hot thread and got the “You Are Not Logged In” window.

And of course it scraps your post while you log in…

And there are websites that you visit hardly at all, like the New York Times, that require a cookie, and then when you DO want to look something up, it wants your password, and of course you don’t remember it, so you have to have it e-mailed to you…what a PITA.

And of course if you share a computer (we have five family members on this one), multiply this PITA Factor by the number of people who are also going to be royally P.O.ed to discover that Yahoo doesn’t know who they are.

I’d say don’t worry about the cookies until they total, like, in the multiple Megs of memory.

Go to “My Computer,” then to “Aptiva ©,” then to “Windows.” Go to “Cookies” and you can see them all. If you right-click, you can draw a rectangle that includes the ones you want to delete, turning them blue. When you let up the clicker, a little window will come up offering the option to delete. (If you press and hold “Shift” when you hit delete, they will not go to the Recycle Bin.) Then go to “Temporary Internet Files” and check all the folders in there. Delete from each folder in the same manner.

Thank you Duck Duck Goose and Gary T. for your replies. I appreciate the information.
