I thought briefly about “Cook’s Outlet,” but that one died aborning.
I don’t think I know enough to be helpful, though I think the “Spit-Fire Grille” sounds like a great name.
I also liked “The Volcano Grille”
Other than that, even though I know it is a place, I’m not sure I’d go to a restaurant with the word “Spit” in it’s name.
Since it seems the view is important, you might consider putting that in the name. Something like “Meal with a View” or “Dine with a View” "Maybe “Volcano View Grill”
I don’t know, maybe someone who knows food and the area better can put it together.
Bistro Fifty-Six?
The Ash Hole (maybe for the bar)?
I was going to say that “fifty-six” or some variant thereof actually ain’t that bad a name.
My wife already thinks I am a bit of a weirdo and calls me an alien. In jest I think.
I may not come out of the naming phase with her support if I incorperate “56” in the name, but I may do it anyhow if the non-spousal support is there in mass.
How about The Plinian? (Type of volcanic eruption.) The Plume? I like The Augustine - with no Bistro. Sounds classy, yet appropriate for the area. Or maybe Rosewood Restaurant (I’m in the process of starting a business myself - Rosewood Landscape Design. )
My one suggestion would be not to use a name with ‘spit’ in the title - it’s just a turn-off for people about to eat.
I have two for you, Sir. These are my two favorites If I ever were to open a restaurant.
-
Someplace Else. This was the name of a restaurant in Vancouver, long since closed. I would assume the name is availible. Just like the sound of
“Let’s go toSomeplace Else” . -
The Other Place. Same as above…“Let’s go to The Other Place”.
Good luck. ever done a restaurant before?
Church Cafe
And if you hired a chef named Doug. You could say, " Come to Church Cafe, where our food comes from a higher Authority:Doug."
It was funnier in my mind.
I like:
Volcano Grill
Spit Fire Grill You could have an emblem of a one of these
Whatever you pick, good luck!
Get Stuffed!
You could give a nod to Alaska history and call it Seward’s Folly.
ding Ding ding!
We have a winner!
What are some of the Inuit/Indian names for the volcanoes nearby? An iconic and catchy native name would stick pretty well. Ya know, “Inuit Word Cafe or Bistro”.
Or, what are the Inuit words for some of the local wildlife? Maybe call it the “Sea Otter Cafe” but, ya know, with the native word for sea otter. (That is, if it is short and pronounceable- keep it simple.)
Make it a Vietnamese restaurant and call it Phenomenal Penh…
I always wanted to have that.
Going with a native name could also give you a built in theme. Tourists are suckers for and love the romanticism of a local theme. You know, you could name your menu items with local native words and place names, like the “Kachemak Special”, or a special fruit smoothie called a “Kachemak Kooler”. You know, stuff like that. Not gimmicky, not pretentious, but just a memorable name for a memorable and delicious dish. You get known for your “Kachemak Special” and everybody will know what it is and come to you for the best. Hell, you could even start a new cuisine and local specialty if you do it right.
Given the volcano, Dante’s Delight sounds good.
C’mon, it’s in Alaska, fercryinoutloud, not L.A.
Howzabout Uncle Fifty-Six’s Family Feedbag?
Serving up good food, good fun, and lotsa crazy crap on the wall since 2006.
The Kinnickinnick Cafe.
I don’t know about an Inuit name - have you seen Inuit words? I don’t know how to pronounce a triangle.
Ooh, ooh, just thought of one - it’s in Alaska, by active volcanoes - Baked Alaska!
“Bistro on the Spit” appeals to me. It sounds to my Heartland ears like it could be taken as just a little bit pretentious, but then we don’t have spits here, so I don’t know how it plays in Alaska.
“Bistro on the Boardwalk” is ok, I guess.
Or you could steal a page from Veronica Mars & just use random Greek myth references. But I think that would be more pretentious.
Oh, & if you’re catering to a mix of tourists & Alaskans, I don’t think “Bistro on the …” is really too pretentious. But you could make it “… Bistro.”
Boardwalk Bistro?
Spit Bistro?
*Le * Spit Bistro?
