Cool Rube Goldberg game I found

It’s called Armadillo Run http://www.armadillorun.com/ I found it when I was trying to find The Incredible Machine, a similar game I used to play in the mid 90’s. The physics are much more improved on this one, but I still miss some of the more unique items that TIM had.

I found a copy of TIM, but it keeps crashing, probably has something to do with DOS.

Anyways, I reccomend Armadillo Run as an interesting time killer. It looks like they donate money to charities too, that’s always good. There’s a free demo at the website of course.

This game is SWEET! I beat it last summer. Some of the levels are VERY challenging, but it makes for some good fun! If you guys get stuck on any levels, or come up with what you think is a unique solution to a level, let me know!

Moving thread from IMHO to Cafe Society.

I don’t know how similar it is to The Incredible Machine, but there is a newer game out there called Crazy Machines.

Have you tried running it with DOSBox?

I have not. It looks like that would make things a lot easier. Which parts do I need if I’m running XP? Just the program, or some of the tools as well?

You can run DosBox with just the tool itself, but it can be slightly cumbersome. I would recommend the D-Fend (I think it’s called) front end for it… it allows you to configure and save each game independently… so any tweaks you would have needed to make to your system to run a game (XMS, EMS, Sound card settings, etc) can be saved… then you just click on the game you want to play, and you’re off.

I see Khadro has already responded, but let me add a bit:

I just use the program by itself; I haven’t tried any of the front ends, but I expect a front end would make it somewhat more convenient (like Khadro mentioned).

It’s pretty straightforward to set it up; this tutorial may help:

If you have any problems, just ask!

I love Armadillo Run! It’s a surprising amount of fun to run back through completed stages in different camera modes.

What version of TIM were you trying to run? I have a copy on a 3.5" disk (I think the label had “Dynamix” printed on it). I moved the files to my current computer, and while the game starts, it runs way too fast…it’s impossible to play. I’ll have to give DOSBox a try sometime.

Well DOSBox helped me run the other game I was trying to run (Flashback: The Quest for Identity), but when I tried to run TIM it said that it needed to be run through windows. I’m not sure if that’s true or not.

It’s TIM 3.0 BTW, I think i used to play an earlier version, some of the stuff looks different.

I’m stuck on level 18 on AR, it’s the first on that you have to use elastic or rubber on. I’ll get it eventually. I have over $1000, which doesn’t seem too bad for being this far along.

That’s hilarious. After the five demo levels, I had $114.

Try MoSlo for that.

Got to $454, but at one point I had over $500. I forgot how I designed some solutions.

My six year old loved the game. Thanks for the tip. We are definitely going to buy game.

I used a piece of rubber in compression, and a cloth “glove”.

I was trying to do just that, but I can’t figure out how to keep it under tension.

You mean “Void 6”?I didn’t use an elastic and had $656 left over
I love this game. It combines my love of creativity, efficiency and elegance with my love of violent explosive destruction when things go awry.

How the heck did you do that? Did you just use gravity and momentum to lift it?

I anchored one end of the rubber to the node under the ball, and the other end I put as close to the ball as it would let me. Then I put the rubber under compression (negative tension). As soon as you push play, the rubber extends, pushing the ball up and to the right. You have to play with the ammount of tension (I think it ended up being about +85% in my case, and where the rubber touches the armadillo.

$534 after the demo levels, i’m going to go pick up the full version. Thanks for sharingthis!
