I know exactly what you mean.
I used to wrench on bicycles quite a bit. Grease can allow you to more easily achieve higher/appropriate torque values, often tending to reduce the likelihood of a fastener coming loose.
Another thread for another day is the importance of understanding which fasteners go in dry, which get oil/lube, which get grease, and which get anti-seize.
