Cop performs barrel roll. Hilarious.

I was watching** Tosh.O** last night when I saw this gem. A cop, who apparently had been called via a nuisance complaint to a pool party in a suburban neighborhood, felt it necessary to perform a “barrel roll” maneuver when chasing one of the teens (who was barefoot and in a bathing suit). This is about the funniest thing I’ve ever seen. Guerrilla warfare tactics being employed on suburban teens at a pool party. Awesome. This cop deserves a raise. Well, he deserves something. A Rambo bandana, perhaps.

I’m not sure if this is a whoosh. You do understand that the cop didn’t intentionally do a barrel roll, right? He tripped and fell and got back up.

A better question might be why the hell are police officers chasing down children for the crime of trespassing. The owner of the property wanted them gone - they were gone. The crime is sufficiently minor that I think putting lives at risk with a pointless foot-race is just ego-tripping on the part of the cops.

I’m not sure where you get that info. It’s certainly not clear from the video that the officer tripped.

It sure looks like he tripped to me. I mean, the “barrel roll” part is just a bit on the internet meme, and somebody obviously found a video they thought it would be funny to insert that bit of audio into. (I mean, why would somebody intentionally roll around on the ground in pursuit of someone? Unless I am being whooshed myself.)

Well, I’m certainly willing to allow for this. I see no tripping, however. But I may be viewing the video with a little bias. And when I first saw the video, there was no audio.

Does the rolling help?

Trip

Looks more like an aileron roll to me.

Actually, watching it again, it seems all the audio is from the game Star Fox 64. I thought the female voice said “Fuck, are you okay?”, but it’s “Fox, are you okay” from the game, along with all the quotes, including the “do the barrel roll” one that is the meme. Probably obvious to many watchers, but I only caught the “do the barrel roll” part, having never played the game.

Yeah, I’ve seen news stories where they say he tripped. He may have had martial arts training; as I recall, many disciplines teach you to roll out of a fall since you take less damage and (obviously) regain your feet faster than if you simply land flat.

Because when somebody falls down for no apparent reason, you just assume they didn’t do it intentionally. Cite

Tuck and roll.

Barrel roll is an aerial maneuver.

Not quite. They’d been refusing to leave and had been threatening the property’s security guards. Three cops showed up originally and wound up having to call in nine more, so it appears these ‘children’ were being naughty indeed.

The dude made the short list for the auditions for the remake of T.J. Hooker.

Mmmmmm, jelly roll.

It started as a fight between two white women, one screaming sick racial slurs, the other defending humans’ right to be black. Some of the pool-goers had swimming passes, some didn’t; each of these two groups included both blacks and whites.

Neither guards nor cops ever asked suspects for swimming passes (lack of which was the ostensible offense); they just rounded up those of the inappropriate skin color.

HTH.

The officer in question has resignedafter the chief called his actions indefensible.

Geez, I’m convinced the guy tripped. Maybe the grass was wet, who knows? No advantage is gained chasing someone by rolling onto the ground.
