The indictment handed down doesn’t change anything. And, by the time the Police Union lawyers are done, the pot-smoking kid will have been transformed into an Enemy Combatant whose very presence in New York City is a clear and present danger to all law-abiding citizens- a young stoner punk who put all of those heroic officers’ lives in danger. The question isn’t if the cops will lose their shields. ( They won’t ) The question is how long it will be, now that there are indictments, before this kid is arrested again and again and again and again and again… for…uh…jaywalking? Looking askance at a cop? Carrying a dangerous weapon masked as a cane? Breathing?
My guess is the officers were probably performing an anal search - for offensive weapons, or something - and while one of the officers was casually twirling his baton, he suddenly tripped up, and landed smack, bang, wallop on top of the poor man mentioned above. Hey, fuck it man, accidents happen!
What is it with NYC police officers and sodomy of suspects (also Abner Louima by Justin Volpe, 1997). I’m not saying it’s a department-wide epidemic or anything but how does one’s mind even go there when deciding to brutalize a suspect?

In addition, although the facts still haven’t been adjudicated in this case, give some weight to the fact that a grand jury decided to indict and do not be swayed by the fact you may not like that Al Sharpton has gotten involved.
Are you sure they weren’t upset because he was suspected of smoking trees and they just wanted to show him what you’re really supposed to do with forest products?
A grand jury will indict a ham sandwich. They are only gonna hear from the prosecution, and only what the prosecution wants them to hear. A grand jury indictment does not remove the presumption of innocence.
That noted, I’m not giving the cops a pass here. If they did what they’re accused of doing, they deserve to face the penalty.
I think the fact that one of the other officers testified against him and on behalf of the victim speaks volumes. Cops don’t testify against cops, as a rule. If one does, it makes me very suspicious.
If I wanted to give some punk a good ass-whipping, the last thing that would cross my mind would be to shove a nightstick up said punk’s ass. That is some truly sadistic shit.

Seriously, a street adjustment is a street adjustment but that’s never something that crosses your mind. Frankly, when it’s tune-up time, the less skin I have to see/touch the better. There’s more to it, and we’ll never know what that is, but this cop needs lock-up.
