Not pretty, but a win. Canada exceeded my expectations. They’ll need to play better against a Uruguay or Colombia, but they’ve never been here nor done this well.
Crépeau redeems himself!
But they’ll play Argentina, yes the brackets are horribly made, I know.
It will be a tough game, but I have a little more hope than I did before. They could get lucky. Maybe they can do a little something in the World Cup too (score a few goals, make it to the second round…)
Let’s count this as a prediction, shall we?
Very nerve-wracking game to watch - the whole thing felt slightly out of control right from the start. Deserved win for Canada I thought, the better team overall and I think the majority of the many weird refereeing decisions went against them.
Has there been even a single minute of play in the Brazil-Uruguay game without someone getting grabby or taking a dive?
You are new to South American clasicos right?
Once they went to penalties it was all over for Brazil, they don’t seem to get the handle of them, whereas Uruguay is always formidable.
I wasn’t sure which thread to post in, but I noticed that it seems that South American players always do a substantial run-up before taking a penalty kick, while European players (such as England-Switzerland) often did their kick with little or even no run-up. Is there a reason?
Canada has had a couple decent chances in the first 15. Glad to not see them bunker, although I wouldn’t expect that with Marsch.
De Paul with some simulation, VAR should definitely rescind the Canada yellow and give one to De Paul, but doesn’t look like it will.
Yeah that was BS
Involved with another yellow. Kone kicked a ball into his back. Obvious yellow, but De Paul acted like he was shot. IMO, that should also be another yellow for simulation. Never going to be called that way, but that’s what it is.
But it was pretty daft by Kone to do that , no question of what was going to happen .
Absolutely!
Man, Canada really had chances this game. Hard to feel good after a loss (ahead of myself I know), but this really could have gone either way.
I would have thought another 15 mins extra time given all the theatrics
It’s really weird how the most recent world cup was the only set of games in the history of soccer that accurately gave stoppage time,
De Paul playing very well one moment and acting shamelessly the next, I don’t think he should’ve got a yellow for the affaire with the ball, but probably one for the other time.
Argentina played a bit better, but still needs to play far better if we want to have any chance against Colombia or Uruguay.
Given the bracket it would’ve been a failure if didn’t reach the final, now we can lose with some dignity.
And the ref definitively should’ve added at least 7, if not ten minutes to the game.
Practically I agree with you. I’m not sure if theoretically I think he should get one for that or if I’m just venting my frustration at theatrics.
The man can be very frustrating, that’s probably why Koné lost his cool.
