Cops Kill Dog Fleeing Scene of Arrest

When I saw the video of this on the news, I was pissed off, now after reading the story, I’m really fucking pissed. Apparently, while traveling on vacation, a man left his wallet on a gas pump. Some halfwit calls the cops and

They stop the car, order the family out of the car and start slapping handcuffs on them. The wife asks the cops to close the door so that the dog doesn’t get out of the car. They don’t do it, the dog jumps out of the car, and as you can clearly see in the video, the dog runs away from the cops, only to be shot and killed by one of the cops!

Nice job there, guys. Not only do you pull someone over on the basis of totally inaccurate phone call, but you then proceed to arrest them, and shoot their dog in front of them! I think we need to add a note about that on the “Welcome to Tennessee” signs at the borders that tourists can expect to be arrested and have the family pet shot in front of them.

(Anybody want to guess what the largest single industry in Tennessee is? Can you say “Tourism?” I knew you could.)

Obviously, any car with money flying out of it just has to be fleeing a robbery. Why would they put that in the movies if it wasn’t reality? Tennessee’s finest are at our service!

And how sneaky of the “robbers” to disguise themselves as a family with kids and dog in tow! Hell, we all know that more and more robbers are ditching those worthless guns as means of self-defense and arming themselves with boxer dogs!

And they wonder why some people don’t like cops.

Even better, the dog wasn’t simply shot by the police officer–it’s head was basically blown off with a shotgun!

When I first read about this, all I could think about was the scene in Vacation where the cop pulls the Griswald’s over for dragging the dog to death.

This is the 3rd thread on this subject. The 2nd in the pit.

I first heard the story as they were telling it on the news this morning… and I was like… Ok… I understand why a cop would shoot a dog runnig out of a car…

at the time… I thought it was maybe a pitbull or something… but no… it was a tiny little dog that did not show any type of threat…

I am not really an animal lover or anything, but come on… how do you just shoot a dog? that was sick…

Watch the video again. The shotgun appears to be pointed down at more than a 45 degree angle when the officer fired. At most, the dog was some 4-6 feet away, I’d guess.

Dammit! I *still * haven’t been able to see that damn video! I gotta stop using a Dixie cup on a string to access the web!

What worries me is that half the world’s population is below average.

I would sue everyone involved if that were my dog.

Me too. I refuse to use/boycott RealPlayer due to the spyware/scumware embedded in it. I guess I’ll just have to wait until a version for Windows Media Player is available.

Oh sure, blame the cops without looking at both sides of the story.

How did that police officer know that that dog was NOT carrying some of the stolen money in its mouth, only to drop it off at an undisclosed location?

Perhaps the pooch was trained in firearms?

And is it the police officer’s fault that the mutt wasn’t properly trained by it’s bank robbing owners to understand the command:

"HALT OR I WILL BLOW YOUR FUCKING HEAD OFF!!!"?

Please take a few moments to reflect on BOTH sides of this tragedy then draw your own conclusions.

… I used Windows Media Player…

The video would be hilarious (the Cop freaking out and shooting a tiny dog like his life was a steak) if it weren’t real.

I’d like to see him lose his job, and I hope somebody gets sued for the way this was handled.

erm *“at steak” not “a steak”

erm *“at stake” not “a steak”

Well, “a steak” could work, too… maybe he was a very hungry dog.

Thisi s why we must prohibit the use of video cameras to record the police at work. We have to rpotect our Boys in Blue.

Hell, if it weren’t for video cameras, that whole Rodney King thing wouldn’t have been blown out of proporition.

maybe the cop thought it was a afghan

I’m unsure what you mean here. Yes, the LA riots were a gross overreaction. Other than that, how can you “blow out of proportion” four cops beating up a defenseless, unarmed man?

Feeling the draft as you get “whooshed”, Coldie?

I don’t know anything about this case, but I’m betting the dog started it.

quote from the officer responsible -

"With the knowledge I had at that time, I was so limited that I felt I did what I had to do," Hall said.
That pretty much sums it up. A trained moron with license to use deadly force.
