"Cops" show comes to Omaha; 1 dead

I want the police to not be stupid and burst in from doors from opposite sides of a room to empty their clips at a suspect…and each other.

:dubious:

I imagine the producers might… or the sound techs.

And when the suspect is wounded and fleeing from a crowded restaurant, to maybe, like, stop shooting for a while, instead of firing round after round after round like Rambo taking out a firebase.

If you stop firing and the guy gets through the back door… do you want to be the guy who runs out after him?

Did he keep going? Or did he get outside the door and turn around to greet the next man through the door?

I think the rule would most likely be - stop firing when he falls down and quits moving or he drops his weapon and surrenders.

Of course that surrender part is always a tricky one. Especially if shots have been fired.

Ummm…yeah, they will. Under stress, people do weird, crazy shit.

Indeed. Then there’s Suicide By Cop.

Nope. You still sit when you pee ?

I see your wit is still sharper than a spoon.

I apologize. Mine was a stupid, unfair response.

Not to sidetrack anything here…but can someone please explain to me how this is an insult? Is there something inherently better, more manly, more whatever, about standing?

Militarized. Overwhelming show of force, as our military does things. Shoot first, ask questions later, that sort of thing. Capice ?

Well, yea. Why do you think toilet seats have two positions ? Maybe you are the wrong guy to ask.

That’s what gets me. It could easily have been a customer at the restaurant who was shot. I think it was probably reasonable for the police to use their weapons in this instance (though we don’t know all of the details yet) but… you need to exhibit some modicum of situational awareness about, you know, who’s behind the guy you’re shooting at. When the police are more dangerous to bystanders than the criminal they’re trying to apprehend, someone’s doing something wrong. I think it’s reasonable that we consider the lives of police officers to be more valuable than those of the people they’re apprehending, but more valuable than innocent bystanders? Fuck no.

I think I get what you’re saying. And I don’t give a shit. Don’t tell me how to do things and I won’t tell you where to stick it.

When you’re dealing with an armed robber, any course of action has risk. But look at the top picture in this article.

There are 15–count them, 15–bullet holes visible just in these three windows. There were probably at least that many shots fired which struck elsewhere.

This isn’t ready, aim, fire. This is spraying an area with fire, almost randomly.

And that can’t be a good if you’re a bystander. Or, if you’re out in the parking lot or on the street anywhere in the line of fire. I refuse to believe that this was the lowest-risk option. If this is going by the book, the book should be torn up and rewritten.

Maybe because standing is optional, not required?

I’m going to assume you can’t answer my question.

NEWS FLASH

Cops armed with A1 Abrams battle tanks and F-18 fighters surrounded an unarmed man who was accused of taking the “Do not remove under penalty of law” tags off the pillow he recently purchased. The man, who was soundly asleep, failed to answer the door on the second knock. The police gained entry by detonating a 500 pound bomb at the doorstep of the residence, killing the man and 43 of his neighbors who were filming the incident with their cell phones.
Yep, that happens all the time.

Well put, Sir Pig. I know police have to police. It’s the overwhelming-force shit that disturbs me. The robber deserved what he got. The sound tech didn’t.

Yep. You’re not Jewish. You are definitely German.

It makes me worry more what kind of person would actually take note of something like that and form a judgement on it.

The kind of person, I hope, who does not own a gun.
