My dad was a cop and he laughed his ass off anytime a TV show showed cops shooting at a fleeing vehicle. No cop shoots at a car, especially an “over-trained” one.

And the “hood ornament” shows that “the driver, not knowing who in hell was behind the car, sped-off” is clearly bullshit.
No it doesn’t. On a dark night, all the driver is going to see is bright lights and guns. Unless the cop’s badge is smashed against the driver’s side windshield, she probably isn’t going to notice anything that doesn’t scare her even more.
I see you’re still assuming they went in with guns drawn and now you seem to have added bright lights in front as well.
These were patrol units and would have been in uniform. One would think that they’d notice someone in a full police uniform on their hood, if not earlier.
OK, have it your way. No bright lights. Just guys in the dark with guns, scaring teenaged girls who are already skittish by nature.
Oh, and if there are no lights, how are the girls supposed to see the cop cars?
