Corner bath conundrum

I knew this’d be the place to ask…

I’ve just spent some time and money turning my bathroom from a horrible beige thing to a nice, warm, terracotta/cream/green type thing with a corner bath.

I’ve also installed a shower over the shorter straight end of the bath. trouble is, I can’t use it, since I can’t find a corner-bath shower curtain rail. At least, not one for less than about £300!

So, dear Dopers, what’s my best (and inexpensive without looking awful) way around this?? I could curve some pipe to the shape of the bath… but then I’d need to attach some kind of central support to carry most of the weight of the pole and curtain - say into the ceiling - but if I do, I won’t be able to draw the curtain past the support… and it may not be enough to prevent my floor getting soaked.

I’m sure there’s a simple solution, but I may be too close to the problem to see it. It’s a thinker… but any suggestions will be gratefully received.

You have a tub in the corner…(for bathing)…or is it just a stand up shower stall?

I’m in the US, but someone in my family has a corner tub and a shower curtain rod that curves around the tub at 90 degrees (of course the rod is actually curved, but makes a 90 degree radius)

Here is a link of what it looks like. Googled on ‘corner tub shower curtain rod’

I’m sure you can find the same in the UK.

Nice link. Invisible underlining and everything.

I assume that you are looking for a quarter circle curtain rail. We bought one about five years ago. I’ll try to find a source.

Install brackets, into the walls, then use a piece of wire rope (cable) with a turn-buckle on one end, to tighten it enough so that it doesn’t sag, and an eye-bolt on the other. Use stainless steel so that it won’t rust. I would use 1/4" or 3/8" cable. Everything I would need to do this is readily available in my local home improvement store and would cost less than $20.00.

Good luck.

I’d install a frosted door. Something like this but not as tall of course, since a bath tub is involved.

I can’t relly get my mind behind your design. Is it anything like these?

My mom’s tub is in the corner, and she uses a pipe suspended from the ceiling. As you note, this means that you can’t draw the curtain past the suspension point (so only the long edge of the tub gets curtained), but that’s enough. Then again, I think her tub is also longer than usual, which would help.

Or, you could get two shower curtains, one for either side of the suspension bar. You could open it like curtains on a window, instead of from just one side.

I think C3’s idea will work the best.

See, I knew you guys wouldn’t let me down.

Yes, it’s a bath / tub in the corner… kinda like a reversed “L” with the two ends joined by a curve. 1.5m x 1m. It’s the curved side of the bath which I need the shower curtain over.

where * is the shower… and the I’s are the curved side of the bath.
I looked at screens, but think a curtain will keep the open feel of the bathroom, since it can be pulled out of the way, or even taken down if necc.

As far as two curtains idea goes, nice idea - in fact, i thought of that, but the gap where the curtains meet will be exactly where all the water from the shower is pointing… and therefore a potential wet floor.

I also googled on corner bath shower curtain… but no real joy.

Have I spotted a gap in the market? If so, I want 10% off any dopers who become millionaires through this! (And it sounds like DaToad is on the right lines… $20 cost, sell for $100… you in?!)

Da Toad may be on to something…

Thanks for your suggestions so far…

Aww… heck. Can;t even draw!

Moderately less crudely…:

(I only opened this thread because I like the word “conundrum”).

However, you could use electrical conduit piping and use a pipe-bender to curve the conduit. It’s quite simple to use. You’d have to paint the conduit however because it’s a dirty silver color, not the nice polished chrome I’m sure you’re looking for.

As far as support, you’d have to have something, either from the ceiling or from the floor. You wouldn’t have to use two curtains though. One curtain would still work, you just couldn’t slide the curtain all the way to one side. It’d only slide half-way.

Who said you have to put the support in the center? As long as it’s not too terribly close to one end or the other, and you connect it somehow for stabalizing it to the walls at either end, you can put the support rod/line whereever you want it. It’s not like you’re going to have 20lbs to hold up. Play with it untill you find a spot you can put the support, that won’t let water out.

Or have two supports, and three curtains…that would work too.
