Coronavirus COVID-19 (2019-nCoV) Thread - 2020 Breaking News

Evidently only good for PS4 owners so us PS3 owners are SOL.

Florida man…

Wrong thread

And of course the board comes out just long enough for me to miss the edit window for obviously posting in the wrong thread.

Why can’t we have a longer edit window?

2,000,065 confirmed infections
126,754 dead
484,597 recovered

In the US:

614,246 confirmed infections
26,064 dead
38,820 recovered

Yesterday’s numbers for comparison:

31 December 2019 was when the world learned there was a new virus.

63 days later, on 2 April 2020, there were 1,000,000 confirmed infections worldwide.

12 days after that, on 14 April 2020, there were 2,000,000 confirmed infections worldwide.

Well, that did not last. Hawaii reported 13 new cases today for a total of 517.

There was a cluster of cases among staff at Maui Memorial Medical Center on that island, 19 as I recall, due to poor practices initially. Now it seems there is a cluster connected to a McDonald’s on the Big Island.

Wearing face masks is now required on Oahu when out and about. Exceptions include if you are in your car, in a bank or at an ATM. Kauai has had this for some time.

But weren’t the vast majority of SARS CoV 2 related publishings already made open and free?

Der Standard reports that, despite the raging pandemic and a government-issued travel ban, Christian missionaries have repeatedly visited remote, uncontacted tribes in Brazil. The term “genocide” comes to mind. I’ve opened a BBQ Pit thread where this piece of news can be discussed more freely.

Did I skip a month or was that you?

His math is wrong but…That date 12-31 is when China reported the pandemic to the WHO, not when the virus was discovered. Also the death figures are wildly inaccurate.

:smack:

93 days later… sorry, folks; I was very distracted last night.

I hate it when the kittens run across the keyboard!

Sad news from Germany: The Neumünster Zoo has drawn up plans to slaughter its animals and feed them to others. According to other (German-language) reports, last on the list is Vitus, the zoo’s famous 3.6-metre polar bear.

The zoo says it is being forced to take this action because the lockdown not only prevents them from opening to paying visitors, but also from arranging for the animals to be transported to other zoos or nature reserves. And because the zoo is owned by an association, it doesn’t qualify for emergency funding under German law. Now that money has run out, the choice is therefore to allow the animals to starve, or to euthanize them and use the carcasses as fodder.

My immediate thought, China will be only too happy to take over the joint. And other countries, that agree on the importance of the WHO, might consider putting their money where their mouth is.

I see any number of outfits emphasize the importance of the WHO, “regret” the decision and/or “urge” the U.S. to reconsider.

So far I can only find one little country that promises to increase their contribution.

Did you perhaps overlook my post #2091 in this thread from 8 April?

Oops, I guess I forgot about that. Thanks, good to hear.

Thanks for your reports from Austria, I read them with great interest.

That’s horrible! Can’t they solicit private donations?

I’ve had kittens run over the keyboard-- they would make it fhyfvfgffdfd cgdfx;;;;;;;; days–and then somehow delete whole folders.

Here is a Deutsche Welle article that seems a little bit more balanced, as well as putting it in a larger context.

Here is the zoo’s donation page (in German), it has a Paypal account.

I might actually send them some money.

That is the solicitation…send us some money or the penguin gets it.
