Sha-ZAAAM!
I don’t understand, with all of the precautions these guys take and recommend, how this happens:
Kansas:
Texas:
California has instituted an overnight curfew thru 21 December:
Which guys? Has Junior recommended precautions? What precautions does he take? Who’s he socializing with? How much time does he spend in the plague-ridden White House?
It’s all sarcastic, you know, because politics and the drastic effect of politics on this pandemic are not to be directly confronted in this forum. So I wide eyed wonder, how could such a thing happen?
Are you saying that you are breaking the rules of this forum but doing it sarcastically so it doesn’t count? That’s a good trick to know. Thanks!
eta: guess I should read the rules. Sounds complicated though.
Figgy, tell me about the precautions we should be following concerning this virus.
I was instructed not to debate in this thread. It’s for breaking news. I doubt my general guidelines would differ from the ones issued by my local authorities but if you want to discuss it, please direct me to an appropriate topic/thread.
I guess if you want to discuss this situation honestly, we have the Pit.
Well, I have no idea what you mean or why you’re being so hostile. What did I say?
I’m trying not to get another warning when Trump Jr. himself just tested positive.
Ha ha. Ok. Sometimes I forget you can’t initially notice how drunk someone is in an internet conversation. Lol.
I’ll allow you to sleep it off.
That’s because this is a Breaking News thread. Start a thread on The Politicization of COVID in The Pit, why don’tcha?
This Alabama football coach quit his job over the lack of safety and testing for the kids.
57,909,991 total cases
1,377,745 dead
40,108,259 recovered
In the US:
12,274,726 total cases
260,283 dead
7,316,323 recovered
Yesterday’s numbers for comparison:
Okay… last night I fell asleep early and had to wake up to post the numbers; as a result I failed to note a benchmark:
Yesterday was the first time that the worldwide daily deaths exceeded 11,000; that happened again today plus a slight increase over yesterday to end up at 11,089 deaths worldwide today.
Today’s benchmarks include:
The US exceeded 200,000 new cases today for the first time (201,083 to be exact).
The country with the next most new cases today was India, with 46,288. India is home to over 1,353,000,000 billion. They have more than 1 billion MORE people than the United States, many of them living in abject poverty, yet their new case total is about 1/5 of the US total today.
Also note that the US is now experiencing roughly 2,000 covid deaths per day.
For folks who aren’t keen on doing the math, the world is now experiencing more than 650,000 new cases every day.
Immunity to the Coronavirus May Last Years, New Data Hint
There was a large variation in antibody levels among participants after eight months. However, there was only a slight decline in T cell levels and B cells actually increased after 8 months. That means that even if people get transiently infected due to low antibody levels, the rest of their immune system should eliminate the virus before they even experience symptoms.
This is worth some serious pondering.
El Paso officials are seeking applicants to work at the morgue as the city’s COVID-19 death toll mounts.
Officials currently are relying on low-level offenders from the El Paso County Jail to help move corpses. Ten mobile morgues are in place to handle the dead.
“All morgue attendants will be tasked with physically moving decedents,” the listing states. “All applicants must be able to lift between 100 to 400 lbs., with assistance. Not only is this assignment physically taxing, but it may be emotionally taxing as well.”
The new hires are needed because of the pandemic, officials said. The county is bracing for an increase in COVID-19 deaths and seeks to hire enough staff to rotate shifts throughout the week.
Attendants, who will work at the county’s Medical Examiner’s Office, will receive personal protective equipment. They also will be tested for the virus before starting. The job pays $27.20 an hour. Offenders from the county jail had been paid $2 an hour.
Applicants must be able to tolerate the sight and odor of the deceased, the listing states, as well as communicate effectively with grieving people who are under extreme duress.
That is a tall order for any amount of pay.
There are over 37,000 active cases of COVID-19 in El Paso. Since the pandemic began, more than 79,000 residents have contracted the virus and 845 people have died.
Population of El Paso: 682,669 (2018).
County Judge Ricardo Samaniego issued a shelter-in-place order Oct. 30, but Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton won an appeals court ruling last week that struck down the order.
ETA: As a reference point, San Antonio (Bexar County) has had 72,313 cases in a population of 2.4 million.
