I have googled for days trying to find good railway times and prices online. It is difficult, to say the least. Therefore, I’m in here to bug all of you, as I’m sure we have a few Eurodopers who could give me at the very least a rough guess.
About how much does a train ticket from Munich to Geneva cost? About how long of a trip is it?
RailEurope.com
$170 and 7 hours, roughly.
Seems a bit high for both, but perhaps searching on your specific dates will help.
I’d recommend buying the ticket in Germany rather than in advance.
Also look at the national German Rail site:
reiseauskunft.bahn.de
Mobissimo lists Lufthansa air tickets for $170
Mobissimo
I also would try the usual discount airlines such as Air Berlin
I have just checked on the German Railways Website and the average cost comes to €110, which works out to $170.
I actually have their English language journey planner bookmarked alongside British ones for getting British train times. Go figure. (The reason is actually because the German site will readily provide details of intermediate stops, which can be useful for working out alternative routes etc.)
Why do you need to get to Geneva? Are you travelling for business or pleasure? What time of year?
This is actually a moot thread, as I just found out that my rail pass will cover this trip, even if it’s not listed in the print timetables. So, uh…thanks for all the help, everybody!
