And just like that!, sanitizer is on the shelves everywhere in my area. Including the brand Costco stocks, although CC’s $10 bottle sells for $13 everywhere else.
Last I checked, hand sanitizer was still pretty scarce around here. For those in the GTA (General Toronto Area) the family-owned Longos chain of grocery stores seems particularly good on stocking PPE-related stuff, at least judging from my local one. They have had ample supplies of alcohol-based disinfectant wipes for weeks, and lots of hand sanitizer (but only the water-thin distillery-made kind – I much prefer the gel and was glad I ordered a bunch while I could). For those desperate for masks, they have washable re-usable fabric types made of supposedly medical-grade droplet-resistant layers of polyester, but have been out of the disposable packs for quite some time now, though they do have a shelf for them if they ever get any again. Mine, which I never realized were coming direct from China, have now arrived in the country and are making their way to me in the kind of slow-motion freeze-frame sweet fullness of time that only national postal services like USPS and Canada Post are capable of.
Just like here. None around, then “oh they have sanitizer” and a week later “wtf, everyone has sanitizer?”
Walmart suddenly had a large shelf-full of sanitizer this morning. What’s more, it’s Germ-X brand, the kind we stock at work and which I like because it has next to no scent.
We bought our one allowed pint-sized container and will use it to refill some small containers which we keep in the car. The small containers are a brand we bought online, theoretically “lemon verbena” scent, but in reality they’re an icky coconut vanilla scent. Gah.
TP, masks and sanitizer are widely available here in NC . Also on Amazon
WTF, indeed. The stuff still remains scarce, along with masks and wipes, but I hit a bonanza when I went to the drugstore just to pick up a parcel at the post office today – the drugstore that had constantly been out of everything, even liquid hand soap for a while. They had a whole section of “COVID supplies” including different types of hand sanitizer, alcohol wipes, and wonder of wonders, lots of 99% isopropyl alcohol and even two remaining 10-packs of masks. Most of it was limited to one to a customer. The nice lady let me buy two bottles of gel sanitizer (75% ethanol) in pump bottles that looked like Purell knock-offs, even though they only had four left, but drew the line at the two remaining mask packages. I offered to trade her generosity with the sanitizer for both mask packages, but no dice – one only.
Apparently they are still in VERY short supply. In theory I have a 50-pack coming from China that seems to be lost somewhere in the domestic mail.
