They’re a breed of grape that supposedly taste like cotton candy.
The oddly-flavored fruits were created by Grapery, a California-based table grape grower several years back, but they recently starting sweeping the East Coast.
They’re only in season from Aug. 10 through Sept. 20, so fans go wild when they’re available — or are sold out at their locals markets.
I have a friend who raves about them and swears that they taste and smell exactly like cotton candy. This seems to be the public consensus.
Because of her and others raving about them, I bought a couple of bags at Wegman’s.
I’m disappointed because to me they taste like grapes. Maybe they’re a little sweeter but they do not taste or smell anything like cotton candy.
Is it just me? Has anyone here tried them. Do you think they taste like cotton candy?
I think they do, but it’s disgusting because I want my grapes to taste like grapes.
Maybe you got the grape-flavored cotton candy grapes.
I tried them last year. They do. I don’t need to try them again tho, I like grape-flavored grapes.

A Google search shows everyone saying that they taste exactly like cotton candy and no one saying that they don’t. Weird. I don’t taste it.
You know what also tastes like cotton candy? [DEL]Hitler[/DEL] cotton candy. It isn’t like cotton candy is rare or expensive or anything. Now if they could come up with black truffle grapes, then they might be on to something.
You just HAD to invoke Godwin’s Law, didn’t you?
I’m going to use Rule 34 and say that you just know that someone out there has made a porno involving the use of these things in some manner.
On a serious note, I haven’t tasted them (yet).
My wife loves grapes, and cotton candy. She does not like these grapes. Kinda like a chocolate steak, I guess.
I tried some last year. The first bite of each fruit tasted like cotton candy, but as I chewed the flavor changed to typical grape. If I cleansed my palate and tried again, I got the same effect. Good for a novelty at any rate.

But if you want a really great grape, try The Grapery Moondrops. They are odd-looking, long black and thin. They are the tastiest grape I have ever eaten. I have not seen them yet on the market this year.

Yes! I bought some on a whim last year and my son is obsessed with them. Haven’t seen them for sale this year.
Except it is kinda rare. Unless there’s a fair or a carnival in the area, I wouldn’t know where to go out and get some cotton candy right now.
I’ve seen it in tubs at Walmart. I never heard of moondrops before this thread. Hopefully they sell them around here.
This post has been Grappled by The Grappleist.
Any brand name that has to tell you how to pronounce it has already failed.

I’ve had both. Grapples takes like grape gum. Crunchy grape gum. Cotton Candy grapes taste like cotton candy. I think both are very bad. Much too sweet.

Cotton candy is good and I like grapes, but I think I’d prefer them separately.
I tried them last year. They don’t taste like cotton candy - just like grapes with something seriously wrong with them. I spit it out into a napkin because they’re disgusting.
