Could Eminem get away with using the "N Word"?

This may be more of a topic for Great Debates, but I thought since it has to do with music I’d put it here.

I’m talking about “Nigga” not Ni**er.

A lot of other rappers throw this word around consistently, and I wondered if Eminem had enough credibility in the rap community to use it without any repercussions. I’m pretty sure that “Nigga” doesn’t have the negative connotatation that the other word does.

I know that Jennifer Lopez used it in a song and many took offense to it.

Being a white guy, would Eminem face the same consequences?

Well, he’s faced no consequences for his hate speech against women and gays; I don’t see why hate speech against blacks should be any different.

Sad, but true.

Yea, he could, but surprisingly, he doesn’t want to.

Plenty of white musicians have said it though - Jello Biafra, The Phunk Junkeez, Twizted…etc.

They’ve said it on South Park and white guys have said it on Chappelle’s show. Blacks are definitely losing their monopoly on it.

And your evidence to support this is…what exactly?

Fromhere:

“I think that’s a whole different category. I can’t speak for Axl Rose; I don’t know anything about his life and how he was brought up. But me, of course, it’s not a secret now. My life, my upbringing is in the public [eye] constantly. People know how I was raised and whatever. So I do black music, and there’s no escaping it, no matter how big I get or whatever. This is where I came from and this is what I do, and I’m not going to deny that. So that’s [the ‘n’ word] a word I don’t use by choice.”

Turns up several articles about the fact that Eminem refuses to use the N-word.

Intrestingy enough, this same queston was brought up on a black chat room. The end result was 50/50, half though no effect would come of it, the other half saw it detrimental. One of the concerns was that Eminimen’s fan base is mostly young whites and that if he said it, then most of them would think that it’s okay to say (by reason of slippery slope) causing as Cisco said, a loss of the “monopoly” :rolleyes of the word.
