Could Monk Catch Dexter?

Well, could he?

No Dexters powers of obfuscation are that of a super heros. It’s kinda like how no one realizes Clark Kent is Superman despite them looking identical.

If Dexter existed in a reality in which he could be caught even the most incompetent detective would have connected the dots already.

Of course Monk could. My cat could, and my cat’s been dead for a couple of months now.

The reason that Dexter remains free is that Miami Homicide is apparently the most spectacularly incompetent bunch of detectives ever to have badges. Maybe they got them as Jack in the Box prizes or something.

Right. Inspector Lestrade could catch Dexter.

At the start when Dexter only killed Serial killers, there *could *have been wilful blindness going on there. :dubious: But now it’s Keystone Kops.

Yeah, but if Dex did get caught, would a jury convict him, or run him for mayor?

We’ve watched all of Monk and just finished the second season of Dexter. I have read there will be a total of I think it’s eight seasons of Dexter and that they already know the ending. It would be good, I think, if season 8 involved Monk being brought in on the case.

What I’d like to read is Serge Storms vs. Dexter. They’re both in Florida.

Monk spent years trying to find the person who killed his wife Trudy.
That killer was nowhere near as clever as Dexter, so I think the answer is no.

However, Monk would be able to determine that someone had sliced and diced a body on a sheet of plastic in that old barn - he would have noticed the slight indentation on the dirt and perhaps smelled the plastic in the air and even might have spotted a drop of glue from a piece of duct tape. So, he might figure it was a clever serial killer, but Dexter would be able to throw Monk off the case by simply lighting a paper bag of dog poop on Monk’s front porch to throw him off the scent.

Plus, assuming Dexter sadly had to kill Monk, even Monk would be impressed with the cleanliness of the process.

Speaking of which, I lost track of Monk a few seasons back. Did he finally find the killer?

Michael Westin has racked up a pretty good body count. Why hasn’t Dexter gone after him?

In the two-part final episode, it’s revealed that
he’d had the all-important clue right in front of him all along – literally gift-wrapped by his wife as a Christmas present he’d never been able to bring himself to open. Monk promptly started tracking down the killer, who’d just now started dosing our hero’s trusty handwipes with a mild poison.

It’s awfully close, but Monk eventually hounds the guy into committing suicide.
“You’re the guy. I don’t know how you did it, but you did it.”

Monk would immediately get a gut feeling about Dexter and wouldn’t rest until he brought him to justice. I haven’t watched more than the first season of Dexter, so the real question is this: would Dexter kill Monk?

If he wouldn’t, then Monk wins. He always wins.

Ha! Like that hasn’t been tried before.

I’ll have to get all caught up and watch that then. Thanks.

Westen. Maybe before the series, but at least for the first 2 or 3 seasons Westen avoided killing with G.I Joe levels of avoidance. IIRC one accidental death and one coup de grâce, and one that had it coming. I do like that he realizes bodies create attention, although I’m not sure if they teach “hacksaw dismemberment and ocean disposal” in spy school. But I wouldn’t be surprised. I think he’s considered a justifiable killer in Dexter’s worldview.

Dexter would spend several episodes agonizing over killing him. He’d finally do it, and use a mental self-justification about why it was necessary. He’s killed at least 1 innocent, 1 semi-innocent vigilante in self defense, and one guy who wasn’t innocent but hadn’t killed anybody. He got over it, although with the case of #2 it took him a whole season.

This description has me wondering if the boys from Psych could catch Dexter…

It depends, is Lassiter involved? Is Jules in trouble? Will there be fish sticks?

I think the more interesting crossover would be Criminal Minds - clearly CSI:Miami couldn’t handle it -

Rick Castle thinks a mystery series with a serial killer protagonist is a great idea.

StG

And now I’m wondering what would happen if Hank called in Monk to help with the Heisenberg case. (Breaking Bad.)
