Could my day have been any worse?

I doubt it.

It started OK, just your average day in the life. Nothing to worry about, just some housework to do. No big deal.

Then my dad comes home and asks me to help him move some furniture for his girlfriend’s daughter. Well, since I’m not doing anything, I say sure, figuring it would only take a few hours.

So we go over to pick the stuff up. We load it in the back of dad’s pickup truck. So far so good, right? Well, he didn’t tie it down, and I didn’t notice.

25 minutes later, I’m dodging traffic on I-83 trying to collect the furniture all over the highway. It’s all torn up and ruined.

When the daughter found out what happened, she was PISSED, and rightly so. Dad tried to blow it off, but I felt like crap.

I should have noticed that it wasn’t tied down. It wasn’t my responsibility, but I felt like it was. So now I’m out $1,200 or so, because someone had to make good on the furniture, and it sure wasn’t gonna be dad. Maybe he’ll get me back, maybe not. Doesn’t matter.

Anyhow, 17 hours and an ass chewing later, I’m home. And right now I’m not above soliciting hugs. So someone please give me one. God knows I need it.

[sub]And yes, it could have been worse, but it was still pretty bad.[/sub]

That’s awful. (((((Airman Doors}}}}}

Put on The End by the Doors. Has a really good line about fathers…

I’ve read some of your other posts. This didn’t seem like such a bad day. Just wait, in the middle of boot camp this day will seem like a frickin holiday. Peace bro.

I still love you Dave! (Yup…the day just got worse! )
As soon as I get back from Canada, and get all settled into my new place, I’ll give you the hug you need. I promise.

Just out of curiousity though, how much furniture can you fit into the back of a pickup so that it’s worth $1200? That’s a lot of end tables…

Dave, I’m sorry. You know I’m available for bitching, screaming, etc…just email or IM me. Love you.

(((Dave)))

Thanks, everyone. I appreciate the support, and the hugs.

As far as the furniture goes, well, it was a couch, chair, and ottoman. Good stuff, very expensive. One of the couch cushions has a very nice tread imprint from where the truck ran over it. I had to laugh about that, but I still felt sick to my stomach.

I had said about getting a U-Haul truck to do this, but nooooo, everyone said how it would be fine. I think the evidence goes kinda contrary to that.

Oh, well, just another learning experience. sigh Why the hell do they have to be so expensive? For all the learning experiences I’ve had, is it any wonder why I’m broke? Next time I’m gonna be in charge, so things get done right.

Makes me feel guilty taking that $15 from you.

Heh heh heh

Excuse me for asking but how does a couch fly out of the back of a pickup? No tailgate perhaps? A lot of speed bumps you hit at 65mph?

JC, don’t you worry. I’ll get it back yet.

I own you at music trivia.
CBEscapee, it got sucked out by a backdraft coming from a tractor trailer. Like I said, I didn’t stack it up. I’d like to think I’m smarter than that. Anyway, this stuff caught some serious air, like 20 feet or so straight up. You should have seen it, it was like watching an airshow crash. You know, all the inevitability and no way to stop it? Well, that’s what it was like. Geeked me out completely.
