Yesterday, Friday, about 10:20, I saw an interesting entourage on Interstate 95, about 65 miles NE from the center of Washington D.C. It was about 7 big new shiny black SUVs with red and blue flashing lights. The first one or two had Maryland State Police insignias on the doors, and the rest were unmarked. They were traveling away from the District, which means toward Wilmington, Delaware, and it occurred to me to wonder if it was Biden, perhaps heading home for the weekend.
Ah. The kind of information I was looking for, thanks! Though this didn’t occur to me (and I didn’t know he always used it), I would have noticed The Beast and its little flags, and did not see it!
It could have been FLOTUS, VPOTUS, a visiting dignitary, or just a decoy car. It would be highly unusual for a President to drive that far though. They don’t like to risk traffic tie-ups.
One also sees the occasional rich narcissist trying to look as important as the President.
Was gonna say, or maybe a Maryland/Delaware worthy; or a high official who needed to be in Philadelphia for something related to the highway collapse incident.
But yeah, POTUS himself would not keep going on 95 much past Baltimore.
I was involved in three presidential details but I never had to go on a highway.
One time I was driving north on the NJ Turnpike when I noticed that there was no south bound traffic other than the occasional trooper car. That was all south bound lanes. 4 car/truck lanes and 4 car only lanes. I also noticed that every over pass over the Turnpike was closed to traffic. One of the busiest highways in the country was shut down completely so the president could drive from Newark Airport to exit 9, about 15 miles. I saw the motorcade go by and about a mile behind that was a line of troopers keeping traffic back.
That’s what a presidential motorcade driving on a highway looks like. It’s a huge undertaking and extermely disruptive.
Last month I was in Rehoboth Beach prepping our property for the summer rental season when Biden’s motorcade when by. I resisted the urge to run out the front door for a closer look since I don’t think a person running towards the motorcade would be warmly welcomed by the Secret Service. I didn’t notice the Beast amongst all the black SUVs (How would they get the Beast there? He usually flies into Dover AFB and helicopters down to Rehoboth), but:
I checked the public schedule and Biden was indeed in town.
Our house is a mile or two from Biden’s on one of the relatively few routes he can take from his house into town.
It was Saturday around 5PM, neighbor said he was probably going to church.
There was what looked like a small ambulance, but painted completely black.
There was another vehicle (also painted black) with a really lumpy roof that I assumed was some sort of communications of ECM setup (I didn’t notice if my cell coverage dropped as they went by).
Back when Vice President Dan Quayle visited NASA our offices were used for the security people. We stood out side and marveled at the black SUVs, the dogs wandering the premises and the snipers on the high roof. I remarked to an agent how impressive this all was. He laughed and said, “This is nothing, you should see what we do for the President.”
