I do not mean write a book – I mean craft it out of the thousands of messages you posted.
So many people have inputed so much work – up to tens of thousands of posts (for me it’s ~12,000 on about 20(??) forums in Russian and English). And yet no one cares if all the work is wasted.
No. Internet posting is ephemera. This is not work, this is play.
Maybe Mad Libs, but not book for me.
Actually, I did write a non-fiction book based largely on posts to a message board. I wrote it after quite a few people said “damn! You need to write a book!” So I did. That was 11 years ago and I still get hefty quarterly checks from a major publisher.
A niche topic, but so far it’s evergreen and continues to sell.
Well, I suppose that I really could craft a quite slim volume from my internet postings here and there but it would be one disjointed tome. I say this with 95% confidence (+ or minus 37 percent or so)
:smack:
Yes, I think so. I have posted at length on a variety of topics and the assembled posts on each subject would make a short book or some long chapters.
In fact, one of my books was sort of written that way… online discussion was both genesis and writing material.
Oh yes, I could. Especially if you allow for editing and expanding on the various topics I’ve examined. But would anyone care to read it? And besides, I’m mostly interested in entertaining myself, and pay my dues by attempting to fight the occasional ignoramus in my own way.
WOW!
You are a cyberforum veteran.
But today it’s much easier to publish a book as an ebook?
What is the book about?
I could easily make my blog into a published book, but it doesn’t have a unified theme, so I’m not sure anyone would be interested.
No clue; I’ve never published an e-book. I have four books in print and each had their genesis online, and each is with a major publishing house and I did very well..
Actually I think that nowadays it’s much easier to publish an e-book. Seems to me the Golden Age of magical bloggers and lowly content writers-turned actual authors was short-lived; I just got lucky with timing.
