My maternal aunt married a man with the same name as my father, not too weird as things go.
Both men are Richards and neither uses their full name, leading to the priceless situation of hearing my dear old Grandmother asking “Which one then, your mother’s Dick or Auntie’s Dick?”
I married a man with the same name as my brother. My brother married a woman with the same first and middle names as our sister. Our sister broke the pattern and married a man named Ed
If people couldn’t Sir Paul McCartney’s family would have died out a long long time ago. His maternal grandmother and her son’s wife were both Mary, his stepmother and his brother’s wife were both Angela, and his adopted daughter and second wife are both Heather.
My sister and I both married men with my brother’s names; he goes by his middle name, so my sister married a guy with that name, and I married a guy with his first name, which is also my uncle’s name. My brother, on the other hand, had three sisters with fairly common names, and managed to marry a woman who had none of them. The multiple people with the same name thing only becomes a problem at Christmas.
My sister dated and then married a tall, bearded guy with the same first name as me (I’m relatively tall and sport a beard).
For a time, while they were married, I dated a short redhead with the same first name as my sister (she’s short and redheaded).
Kinda weird when you look at it on the surface, but once meeting either me and my BIL or my sister and former girlfriend, one would realize that even the physical similarities are minor. I’m absolutely nothing like my BIL, although he is a great guy. My sister’s nothing like my ex.
I have the same name as one of my wife’s brothers. It’s never been a problem for her, except that sometimes at family gatherings we have to specify first and last names to indicate which one of us we’re talking about.
It was a jest of God - especially since neither of the names in question was particularly common for their generation. Herr 'spiel suggested that since our daughter changed her last name upon marriage, our SIL should have changed his first name to avoid confusion.
He didn’t. And neither Aguecheek nor his brother-in-law tolerate diminutives, short forms or nicknames - so that option was out. So they are both addressed by their full name. We just have to be very specific as to whom we are referring.
Aguecheek married a lovely girl who does not have the same name as his sister.
My siblings and I have Celtic names, and my sister’s name is commonly used as an alias by people on the 'Net (there’s even one here on SDMB). However, I could never date someone with the same name, because I associate it too much with her. I’m pretty sure if I was used to hearing it more in other contexts, it would be easier for me.
I have four brothers. Three of them share names with men I’ve had relationships with. I don’t recall ever thinking of my brothers while I was with them.
Wouldn’t bother me, my brain doesn’t associate things that way. It would be weirder if there was a physical resemblance. My name is fairly common so it’s even more likely I’ll end up dating someone with my name.
I used to date someone with the same name as my sister. It was a bit weird at first, but I quickly got over it.
My sister used to date a guy with the same name as me and ended up pregnant. The kid is only 2 years old, but I can imagine it’ll create some confusion in the future even though they have no contact with the dad.
My mother has the same name as a paternal aunt - who married someone with the same name as my father. My aunt went by a nickname, though.
I don’t have that problem. I just googled by wife’s name. There were 8 hits, 3 about her, two in odd languages, two about someone who died in 1860, and one who might have the same first name.
My daughter actually dated a guy whose first AND middle name were essentially the same as hers!
They were both Alex Lee. Had they been married, they’ve have had the same first, middle and last name. LOL.
Actually, he was Alexander Leigh, she is Alexandra Lee .
I don’t think I have to worry about dating some one with the same name as my sib considering I only have a sister and there aren’t a lot of guys named Annie. LOL.
