Couldn't log in

Thank you.

Thanks!

Data base errors are multiplying.

Often I can get to the front page, but choose a specific forum and - data base error.

It has happened more, in the last 2 wks, than I can count. After two or three tries, it resolves, but that’s not terribly reassuring.

So, what’s going on? (She asks, as though she’ll get an actual answer.)

It took me forever to get on just now. I used the trick from the OP and finally got logged in.

My Firefox is upgraded and I already cleared the cookies, so that little trick didn’t do a thing for me, who is still getting data base errors, frequently.

So, I’ll ask again, what’s going on?

And a little quick research reveals that other vbulletin sites don’t produce and errors for me, so I’m thinking it’s something specific to this site.

The Dope is up and down like a whore’s drawers for me today.

Yeah, the SDMB has been hanging a lot for me in the past couple weeks, culminating in the last half hour where it damn near shit the bed completely.

XP Professional SP3
IE 8.0.6…

I’m getting the same problem as the OP and others, under Firefox 3.6 and Chrome (haven’t tried other browsers). I thought it was because I haven’t logged in for a while and the server was sulking or something.

One more question, when you get the ‘data base error’ message, it claims a notification has already been sent to the ‘board technical staff’.

Is that really true or is it just going to a dump file somewhere? By my calculation alone I’ve had dozens in the last two weeks. That would lead me to believe that somewhere, some technical staff (?) is getting inundated with notifications. Is this really happening?

Oh yeah, I’m using Safari on a Mac.

I know it’s April Fools and all, but any chance we could get some answers to the questions asked in this thread?

The database errors are not related to the issue stated in the OP in any way. Everyone is seeing database errors, it’s a server side issue.

I don’t know for sure, but I don’t think an email is sent out with each error. My assumption is that it is dumped to a log file which Jerry keeps a check on.

Can you explain what this means, for the less savy?

And is anything being done to address the issue?

The Creative Loafing servers (which the SDMB shares) are having some issues. A hardware upgrade is in the works.

Note that mods and admins have no control over the CL servers, so I don’t have any specifics.

“In the works”

Are they aware that subscription renewal season is right around the corner? And that the frustration of numerous ‘data base errors’ is likely to negatively impact renewal rates?

Any chance you’d do us all a favour and point this out to ‘them’? Not to be offensive but their business model is quite baffling and sometimes lacks the common sense factor.

By way of example, “I don’t think an email is sent out with each error”, it says there is right on the ‘data base error’ screen. Why bother putting it there if that’s not occurring?

The database errors are occurring due to server problems affecting everything concerning Creative Loafing, our corporate parent. It’s not just this board or even just this site, it’s Creative Loafing online as a whole.

It’s a much bigger deal than just here – though just here is likewise meaningful – and the situation is being addressed, if not as swiftly as we would like.

And yes, there is a log of database errors, Jerry sees it. We do not, as we do not have access to what happens on the server side.

We apologize for the inconvenience and hope that you bear with us in this annoying time.

Thanks much for the update. Even with the issues it’s not as bad as it was years ago, so not the end of the world or anything. Just glad to know it’s not just me.
