Countdown to ChiDope – Sex Toys, Booze, and Trivia Games - April 5th and 6th

You can sleep in my car if you promise to defend it from the roving gangs of Chicago thugs led by an undead Mayor Daley. Or, I wager within a day you’ll have half a dozen realistic offers.

But here’s my problem.

On Fridays, we’re given free beer at work around 4:30 pm. I’m leaving around 2 pm to gather folks and start the roadtrip, but that means I won’t get beer until around 9 or 10 pm, give or take.

Thus, my dilemma is, do I stay at work until the free beer arrives, and then drive to Chicago? Or do I hold off on the consumption until I get to Chicago?

Being forced to choose between beer and ChiDope is something no mortal man should have to face.

You leave at 2. I buy you a beer. End of discussion.

So who wants to drive me from New Hampshire?

<crickets chirping>

Aww.

I didn’t know that anyone was interested in going to MSI…yay! How about the Daley Center Picasso? It’s close enough to walk to the Art Institute and catch the shuttle to MSI.

Re: Timothy O’Toole’s…uh…

I gots me this tiny little problem with my birthday in that I turn 21 after Chidope. Kinda noticeably. Now, I’m hoping the Virginia outline on my ID will shine brightly as it did in NYC, but I’d rather not rely on favorable lighting, so to speak.

Anyone know when the place starts carding?

Well, iampunha, if you can get in the place, I’ll volunteer to be the person who goes to the waitstaff and orders your drinks.

Re: The brunch.

Thanks all for offering to bring stuff. I’m putting together a kick ass bloody mary bar for those who drink 'em…so if you have a special garnish you want to contribute, bring it along.

Also, please don’t be surprised to find me shuffling around in glasses and pajamas on Sunday morning…as I simply will not be dressing up after two nights of SDMB partying.

You are welcome to wear jammies as well.

J

I think that red cotton long johns will make a fashion statement. I may well wear them on the drive down, too.

I don’t wear jammies.

Since no one seems to need a ride from the airport, how bout this?

Anybody want to thrown in for a car/limo to and from the Doubletree Saturday night?

And this, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls of all ages, is why we have the Dopefest disclaimer.

Just in case you didn’t see it, here it is:

[[ The Chicago Reader, Inc., and its agents, including the administrators and moderators of the Straight Dope Message Board, are in no way responsible for anything associated with any real life meeting of our members. While we permit SDMB users to post announcements and other discussion of meetings and events on the Straight Dope Message Board, we don’t organize, sponsor, endorse, approve, or have any formal association with such events or any activities that may occur at them. We don’t vouch for any individual or group organizing an event. Attend at your own risk. SDMB moderators and administrators who attend events do so as private individuals and not as representatives or agents of the Chicago Reader, Inc. **We encourage all attendees at these events to obey the laws of the jurisdiction in which they are held. ** ]]

BTW, this also applies to those folks that give minors drugs, illegal or otherwise, just in case you were asking.

We’re all for people having a good time, just have a little common sense, please.

Of course, UncleBill and I are in for the car/limo, Miss C.

We are planning to go to The Museum of Science and Industry Saturday afternoon, anyone want to join us?

Lastly, who all is staying at the Doubletree? It looks like some folks are planning to gather at/near there Friday night, yes? Is there a plan, even a vague one, at this point?

What time? I don’t know if you could do justice to both the Art Museum and the MSI in a day, but I was thinking of trying. If I had to pick one, though, it’d be MSI. Ain’t classy enough for art. Plus, I get the chance to flash back to all those grade school field trips.

I saw a post way up in the thread that some people were going to congregate at either Gibson’s in the Doubletree (said to be pricey) or at the Embassy. I assumed from the tone that they were close together. I thought that since I was driving in, I’d stop at one or the other and just see what developed. Probably start athe Embassy, since I’m on a budget. The mobile phone list will probably help us find each other, too.

I’m planning on going, as is, I believe, Zyada.

The Doubletree DOES have a courtesy shuttle from O’Hare to the Hotel. You CAN go to the baggage claim level, head toward the Bus/Shuttle Center, and go to Door 1F.

I arrive at 6:20pm, on Untied Airlines, good lord willin’ and the creek don’t rise.

Temps are looking like:

Fri: 48/34
Sat: 54/44
Sun: 58/40

A wee bit warmer than that drafty walk in NYC, eh, thinksnow?

And the Doubletree says it has a “lounge”, which I take as a bar with a cheesy singer.

I would think both in one day would be tough - the Art Institute can be done in two or three hours, but MSI is a day in and of itself.

I never got the mobile phone list. This makes me sad.

:hands Sophie a tissue:

Actually, I haven’t sent it out yet. I pestered a bunch more people on Friday via email who might not have seen my plea in this thread. I am planning on sending it out to folks tomorrow.

<< I would think both in one day would be tough - the Art Institute can be done in two or three hours, but MSI is a day in and of itself. >>

Cough, cough. Well, I guess it depends on what you mean by “done” – if you mean, an hour’s walk-through, then sure, you can do five or six museums in a day.

The problem with the Art Institute and the Museum of Science and Industry in the same day is distance, it’s a good half-hour or 45 min cab ride from one to t’other. Alternate would be Art Institute and Field Museum of Natural History, or, if you’re into art, the Art Institute and the Museum of Contemporary Art.

BTW, if I am at the celebration and I see or hear of anyone underage drinking, or anyone of any age breaking any other laws, I will not stand quietly by and watch the law being broken. I will speak up.

Damn me in a Pit thread all you want for that.

Illinois Statute:

If you see people fornicating in an open and notorious way, speak up!

…the rest of us wanna watch.
