Finally, after months of waiting, the Counting Crows are making their way to Chicago, and I will be there. The show was originally scheduled for November, but singer Adam Duritz had a cold, or something.
I saw them play in Tampa three years ago, and it was absolutely incredible. They really throw a lot of emotion into their live act. I am a grown man, and I am not ashamed to admit that I very nearly shed tears during a couple of their songs.
Anyway, I am very excited about seeing them again. However, I will have to curtail my enthusiam a bit, for right on the tickets it says in big letters… NO MOSHNG(sic). Damn. No moshing? At a Counting Crows concert? Man, I know when I hear the opening notes of “Round Here” I am generally whipped into such a fury… I hope I can contain myself…
Yeah, saw them in St. Louis, at Riverport. It’s a big open venue, and as far as I can remember, there was no moshing. They were awesome, but their openers, the Wallflowers, are definitely studio-only artists. I like Bringing Down the Horse, but they were less than impressive live.
He weathered a firestorm of agony and did not break.
And while Yori raged against his unbending
courage, we took Kyuden Hiruma back.
His loss is great, but so is the gift his suffering brought.

I was pretty disappointed with them when I saw them in Toronto. It was a pretty crappy venue, though. Cake was the opening act- they were alot of fun. The most memorable thing about Counting Crow’s performance was Adam Duritz slurring “Yeah, Cake!” from time to time. And they didn’t even play “Mr. Jones” on top of that. Their whole attitude seemed to be, “Let’s just play and get the hell outta here.”
Then Holley held Miss Spider’s hand…
I’ll say no more, you understand.

But I thought I’d mention in passing that the cover of their latest CD was the cover of a children’s book written by Neil Gaiman, of Sandman fame. “The Day I Traded My Dad for Two Goldfish”, I think.
I thought that was cool.

I don’t have an evil side. Just a really, really apathetic one.
