Couple questions:

  1. Do the mods routinely take out double posts? (I think that’s a good idea, by the way - on another message board the mod does not take out double posts, but DID e-me suggesting I not “waste board space” by making a joke.) I always like the double post then the obligatory “sorry about the double post” line afterward.

  2. Sig lines. I’ve seen lots of people with them. Some discussion about them (“what should I have for mine”) etc. there were some comments from one person who, I guess was asked to change their sig line 'cause of it’s length. Since I’ve seen sig lines of long term posters that, shall we say, have not met brievity, it made me wonder how many chapters of War and Peace this person must have had in their sig line in order to be asked to reduce it. So, I thought I’d ask “what’s the preferred length of a sig line?”

First things first: Yes, the mods do delete duplicate posts, when they have the chance and see them. If you accidentally make one yourself, it’s considered polite to drop the moderator an e-mail and ask him or her to fix it.

Secondly, about sigs: Between one and three lines is good. There’s no hard-and-fast upper limit, but if your sig is routinely longer than your posts, it can get annoying. If you’re going to have a relatively long one, it can help to put the whole thing in subscript, so it takes up less space.

I’m not much for signature lines, myself, because you tire of them.

If this is like most boards, you might want to type your signature line.
Putting it in your bio area probably retroactively changes all the threads you were on.

Tossing in a motto is just like other typing:

This is a “typed” signature line

Blah Blah

This is a modified “typed” signature line

My Dog Has Fleas

Wise words from Chronos. I’m gonna add a couple qualifiers though. If someone has commented on a double post, I won’t ordinarily delete it since it breaks the continuity of the thread. I s’pose I could edit out the remarks referring to the double post, but I prefer to not edit posts. Also, if the board is moving slow or it’s a high traffic time of day, I won’t try to delete duplicates either. It can take several minutes and unecessarily consumes system resources.

Xerxes, your are correct about the sig line attachemnt; if you modify the sig in your profile, all past posts will assume the new sig since it is called from a database everytime a page is loaded.
