I’ve been spending less time at SDMB and recently started posting more again. I just noticed today that most people don’t seem to be adding signatures to their posts anymore. It used to be the “in” thing to do. Am I stuck in yesterday?
I assume that it has something to do with bandwidth? Is this a correct assumption? If so, has it made a big difference?
I use mine only in threads that I know (from my John Edwardsian powers) that the mods won’t regulate. Therefore they will not see how it breaks the four line rule (is it a rule?) by a line.
Meatros, if your powers are John Edwardsian, wouldn’t that mean the moderators were dead?
I never particularly cared for sigs anyway. I had one I used sparingly that didn’t mean much, and I haven’t used it since the swap to vB. This is partly due to the way vB uploads the sig every time the thread opens, rather than storing the sig as posted as text. This means if you update your sig, all previous posts are changed, too. I liked to use the sig to refer to the text of my message, and this feature makes that not work for me. Besides, I find sigs distracting from the flow of the conversation, and tediously repetitive. Now that I can read without sigs, I’m so much happier.
Wasn’t there a suggestion made some time ago not to use your sig more than once per page? I think a lot of people put default sig off and then forgot to turn it on when they wanted it enough to get frustrated and give up.
