So I’m poking around in my user profile and what do I see? Under the “Edit Options” tab there’s a little box that says “Show other users signatures” and a yes/no radio button.
I turn it off with no little trepidation. Is this some sort of trap set for those of us who don’t enjoy reading sigs? Will Sig-Goons appear and start beating me? Will I be teleported into the very center of a giant black hole? Will my username have a [sub]banned[/sub] under it?
No.
It’s just the same ol’ SDMB, mercifully bereft of sigs.
And it’s great:
Those who enjoy reading sigs can!
Those who choose not to can choose not to!
Once again, SDMB, you’ve offered the best of all possible worlds to your users!
Since I started using it, threads load faster, the Board colors are brighter, my posts are getting more views and my breath is fresher!
The only problem I had with being sig free was people seemed to always be saying “Great sig!” all the time! And being curious it always led to a lot of work.
Sadly I was not able to stay off sigs and have since reverted. Sigh. Good luck with going cold turkey!
D’oh!!! I’ve been sending Fenris secret messeges via sigline, and now he can’t read the critical information!!! The Soviets will get our Rocket fuel formula for sure now!!!
There’s been a couple of occasions where some one will mention
“and if ever there was an appropriate time for my sig, here it is”. On one such occasion, I went back into my user panel and turned it off and went back to the thread. and was underwhelmed. SO, I haven’t been tempted ever again.
Best feature I’ve ever come across. Can’t believe I found it long before Fenris. I spend hours on this board anyhow…reading sigs just adds another hour better spent reading posts.
Fenris, thanks for pointing this feature out. I’ve never had pages come up so quickly and I have a 56k modem dialup. So you know that’s slow. The brightened links look better in my opinion, also.
Another reason to keep them around is when some people change there names (throatshot just became deadlyaccurate, or was that DeadlyAccurate) they will let you know who they used to be in their sig.
Osiris: I’ll take that chance. There aren’t all that many name changes and missing the occasional one for a while is a small price to pay for not seeing a quip that someone’s been using for 3 years now.
