No longer will throngs of useless signatures be unwittingly thrust upon us. And the signal to noise ratio of all threads will now increase, providing an effective increase in bandwith. I hereby declare this “Opt-in signature day” on the SDMB!
i say they make the sdmb plain text files.
I preferred auto on. oh well.
Eh, I deleted my sig long ago just to be rid of that nuisance. I am not sure I recall how to re-activate it now. Or even recall what it was.
Something about Cynthia…
sigh
Hmm, I guess I could have deleted my sig. That would have fixed things.

Hmm, this command seems to do the trick.
lynx -dump "http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=256861" > sdmb-plain-text
Repeat for each thread as needed.

Me too. I was beginning to think I was the only one!
How can you prefer to have it auto on when we’re not permitted to display it more than a few times in a thread?

Are you saying that only USEFUL sigs will now be unwittingly thrust upon us?
I don’t usually post more then a few times to the same thread anyway.
I preferred it to be auto on, as well, but eh…
I preferred auto-on as well, since signatures aren’t allowed to be unnecessarily long on the SDMB anyway.
It’s not a big deal though.
