Courtney Barnett sure got old fast.

Huh. The local radio station and the dish music channel I listen to put her into heavy rotation recently. At first listen, it sounded like smart, fresh hip stuff.

But after a second or third time around, the mono-tone shouting of non sequiturs in a funny accent over buzzy guitar kinda falls flat. It all sounds the same.

Pretty tired of this shit already.

Horrors. Now there is a band! Not one song sounds like another.

I still like her music after quite a few listens.

Weird, I was listening to her 2 albums almost every day for a while. Granted I stopped playing it so much after a couple months but I still listen to them all the time. Her and Chance the Rapper.

Interesting tho my friend was also way into Courtney after I told her to listen, and she loves her music with the same fervor that I do but she also said that she was ready for new material after about a month. So you might be on to something!

You need to buy her music (or get it free with Amazon Prime!) and listen to it when you want, then maybe it won’t feel so force fed!

I was recommended by a friend. I listened to the latest single.

Then I watched her on a late night show.

My thinking is that this artist gets to do whatever they want and I’ll watch it. If it’s boring and they used this song as their network appearance I’ll assume their material is lousy. The artist is themself saying it really. So I have stayed away since then. I was bored.

My favorite tracks are “Avant Gardener”, “Elevator Operator”, “Depreston”, “An Illustration of Loneliness” and a few others. There’s enough difference between them that I don’t feel like they’re all the same thing. Never thought of her lyrics as non sequiturs either.

On the other hand, I could easily cut half the tracks out of her recent album and not miss them at all. On balance, I still like her though.

Somebody stopped me the other night when I was wearing my Courtney Barnett shirt to tell me that she’s the best and I should also check out music by Angel Olsen. I haven’t had a chance to sit down and listen yet but I thought I should share this nugget with y’all.

According to this article we should also check out Alex Lahey.

I only know the song about how great breathing is. It was fun, but it seemed like a bit of a novelty tune.

Come to think of it, I also saw her on SNL, and I guess whatever she did on that appearance did not make much of an impression on me.
