I happened to wonder what he did when he left late night,
and IMDB had this entry
Craig Kilborn in “Action Hero” (2009) plays “Kilborn” undoubtedly as himself in a cameo.
But the had no release date.
I can imagine he felt trapped in late night, but I wonder if he was really ready for obscurity.
I always got the impression he thought himself better than his current position. He was better than ESPN so he moved up to the Daily Show. He was better than cable so moved to network TV. He was better than TV so moved to making movies. Since that isn’t working, I doubt he will go back down the chain, but try to go on to the next best thing. What is better than acting in movies? Producer? Director?
Yeah, he’s always been like a parody of the wealthy playboy or the 19th century spoiled son of the gentry. He’s big and tall and handsome and he knows it; he loves showing up at events with a blonde on each arm. If he were in reality nothing like that and pretended to be like that because of his frat-boy looks, then he’d be fun and lovable, but he looks like he reads Esquire and Maxim and takes them way too seriously.
But who cares? Lots of people would like to be able to retire at 47 and goof off all day. If he can do it, good for him. I just hope we don’t start hearing stories about how he was a jerk to all of his ex-girlfriends or worse, that he sexually harassed or threatened anybody. Somehow I suspect it’s not impossible.
No cite, just foggy possibly innacurate memory: wasn’t there a sexual harrassment complaint from Daily Show staff? Maybe even from Liz Winstead herself- I know I’ve heard she wasn’t fond of him.
He made a joke about her in an interview that got him suspended from the show for a few days. Something about how she’d go Monica Lewinsky on him if she let her.
Stupid move on Kilborn’s part, but it always seemed kinda hypocritical to me for her to get angry about someone making crude jokes at her expense while writing for a show that did the same thing to others. Might be more to the story though, I don’t really remember.
