Crazy Triple-posts

Twice now, I have gotten triple-posts when submitting form the Quick-Reply box. I KNOW that I don’t mulit-click the button, and the only think I have noticed that was different than normal was that the posts take an unusually long time to go through, as compared to other posts that I might have made around the same time.

Is there any way to prevent this from happening?

Check your mouse-click speed settings, is what pops into my mind. Settings, Control Panel, Mouse, Mouse Properties, fool around with the slider and the jack-in-the-box thingie.

Otherwise, the only sure way to prevent it is to never post again.

It happens sometimes. Usually the server is taking sooo long to submit…then I hit it again.

and again

sorry

I’m not using Windows, so that fix won’t work, DDG. I’ll look into it in my OS (linux) though. And vanilla - I don’t resubmit them. I click submit, then go to another window or do something else, and when it finally stops loading and gets to the page, there are 3 posts! Not 2, or 4, but 3. It’s just annoying, but I’d rather not go about emailing mods to clean it up all the time, so I was just wondering if there was something on my end I could do.

oh well.

Usually there are several minutes between these multiposts (at least the hamsters think so). Running your computer with a double-click-time-setting in the minutes range would be quite a feat without noticing it. This setting determines the time threshold between two consecutive clicks to be treated as belonging together, both clicks getting translated to the single event of one double-click. It can’t be a cause of multiposts, since it doesn’t create two clicks from one, and she’s sure to not have deliberately clicked more than once.

Blame the hamsters, they seem to go through a phase of increased quirkiness (if that’s possible). The admins do their best to tame them, and I don’t think there’s anything we can do on our side.

vanilla (and all others), sometimes your initial post submission goes through and a post is created, and it’s only the confirmation to you getting stuck or lost. Don’t resubmit until you made sure the first try didn’t make it. Clicking ‘preview’ again and looking if your first post shows up is the easiest way to check.

I’ve gotten the reverse problem:
I post in one window, and it pauses a few minutes, h hen says “thanks for posting” and stays in that mode a few minutes.
Meanwhile I’ve been reading another thread and post to it.
Even though I hit the second Post key several minutes after the first one, it comes back after a few minutes with “60 second limit on consecutive posts”.

That’s not unusual, CMBB. The admins here have specified the 60 second limit, and although on your end it might be more than 60 seconds since you hit submit, on the server end, if the two are recieved too close together, the second post won’t go through. It’s a wonky server. You’ll get used to it.

Welcome to the boards!
