Republicans, including Texas Governor Greg Abbott, then claimed that over $640 million had been spent by FEMA on migrants when it could have been used to plug the funding gap.
So Abbot has joined the crazies.
Gov Abbott is an important person.
Half the country is in the cult and they may take control of the government in a few weeks, but I am completely over pretending their concerns are legitimate or important.
His much of that $640 million went to Texas? You know, where Gov. Abbott has been screaming about being overwhelmed by the migrant crisis?
And that $640 million was a separate line item approved by Congress from the disaster relief funds.
FEMA was in trouble on funding last fiscal year because of record payouts over a record number of disasters, including the fires on Maui.
Not that Republicans care. It must be the Dems stealing funds, or giving money away to illegals, or funding for Ukraine.

Agreed, Colorado is by no means perfect, but it suits me better than most. And almost anywhere along the front range (including the Springs, but we’re strangely pricey compared to nicer places IMHO) is more blue than most of the eastern half (Kansas) or west of the Rockies.
As for the altitude… yeah it’s a worry. My father and step-mother had a place up in Cotapaxi for decades, but after a major pneumonia based loss of lung function nearly a decade ago they sold it, and them visiting us in the Springs is now not a good idea outside of short visits. Which is why I’m doing the 630 mile drive to see them more.

Yes, I’m with @scabpicker - he’s one of the ones that is egging on the crazies, and giving them the “smoke screen” that it’s legitimate. After all, if such an illustrious member of government (sorry, the sarcasm is melting my keyboard) thinks the concerns are valid, there MUST be something to it think all the “sane” Republicans.
Or as another thread put it, Trump’s NUTS, but the rest of the Republicans/MAGA and efforts to have “balanced” news are sanewashing the crazy, causing massive, prolonged, and possibly unrecoverable damage to our representative government and respect for the rule of law.
Abbott, like Vance is hoping to inherit MAGA when Trump dies.
Or they may have thought that they represented a voter registration drive and weren’t interested so said they were already registered to get them to leave.
But in the context of admitting they aren’t citizens, that seems less likely, as not being a citizen is a reason to not be harassed by a voter drive.

Agreed. Somebody once said that fascism is the demon capitalists summon to promote their interests, then get eaten by. Look at how many Russian oligarchs and their families have suffered “accidents” since Putin took over, for example.
