Creating a website for a dummy.

I’m a graphic artist by trade who has worked strictly for print all my life. I have no experience in creating content for the web, nor do I wish to. However, it’s the 21st century so I think it is high time that I had a website that would display and advertise what I do.

But where to begin?

I see that Google offers a free website service including pre-designed templates but I’m unsure if that is the best way to go. I’m not looking to learn to write HTML (whatever that is), but merely need an attractive site, that’s mine (as opposed to uploading my work to Facebook, Flickr, Deviant Art, ect.) to advertise my capabilities.

Advice?

I suspect maybe you have a Mac?

I have a friend who’s a photographer and a web n00b and made a pretty decent site using iWeb. She can use it so it must be pretty easy.

It integrates with Apple’s “Mobile Me”, if you have an account, or you can use it to publish to any Web host. If you don’t have Mobile Me, or don’t want to use it, you’ll need to register a domain name and get a Web host to do that. I recommend getting a domain name via GoDaddy, and hosting wherever you want. You can search the SDMB for many threads about recommending a host.

The staffing agency I interviewed with this week told me to get my stuff up onto www.krop.com. You can have a free or paid account, but if your samples are scanned, you’ll be able to have a link to send people within an afternoon.
