Creating batch QT reference movie files?

I’m running OSX, and have quite a large number of movie files that I want to keep synced with iTunes, but I don’t have nearly enough room on my internal hard drive. I discovered that reference movies can handle the job quite well, but the only way I can see how to do it is to open them one-by-one and create reference files–not exactly fun.

So, is there an applescript or anything that can automate this process?

Not sure how to automate making actual reference files, but… Have you tried simply doing it using aliases? I’m able to put my entire iTunes folder on an external using an alias folder - I imagine you might be able to do the same with a subfolder.

Also, google “Doug’s iTunes applescripts” - he has a lot of iTunes and general apple related applescripts.
