Creating Stencils From Photos

I was watching a documentary the other day about the rise of graffiti artists embracing the stencil medium, and they mentioned a site called stencil revolution.

On the site they have a tutorial on how to create stencils using the photo of your choice by using photoshop, which inspired me to have a go with the ultimate aim of creating something which I would be proud to hang on my wall.

I’ve attached some links to examples of stencils I have created over the past two days for anyone interested. Please bear in mind that the photos I have chosen have been more out of convenience rather than a depiction of the style of photos/stencils I would ultimately like to display.

I should also mention that unless you have a more than basic understanding of Photoshop that creating the stencil might prove to be quite frustrating as the tutorial is only very basic.

Bravo, TLB! Thanks for the tip.

That’s awesome! The textures in #1 are really cool!

Thanks!

I should mention that once I printed the stencil from the computer onto an A4 piece of paper, I then glued it onto a slightly thicker piece of card to make the cutting job easier. Once it was cut, I used a small roller to distribute the paint over the stencil.
