The season finale for Criminal Minds aired last night. I’m a longtime fan of the show and generally enjoyed this episode but…

Hopefully that’s enough space for spoilers
The cliffhanger was a killer. Stinky Breath Dude taking a (preteen? tween?) child out of the room to presumably rape and murder her? Normally Criminal Minds has the good guys save the first major victim after they take the case. To have a rising body count and end the season on that note was just cruel. Also having the hero cop lower his gun struck me as an odd call (both from a reality and in show perspective). I couldn’t see that as ending well.
Anyone else think that leaving Derrick alive was an odd choice? the killer had previously only left the helpless. As it is, he has a trained federal agent who had ages to memorize his face.
I normally enjoy Criminal Minds, but I thought it was seriously lame. Tim Curry played an overweight, disease-ridden bum with a monstrous 30-year smoking habit and a limp. How he was able to overpower the tween he was kidnapping, let alone Morgan, is beyond me. The wussy cop didn’t help matters and you could feel the “To Be Continued” (which really slowed down the plot) from a mile away.
Well, surprise and a metal club (IIRC) can be a hell of an equalizer, even for a bum. The wussy cop i think we have to blame on bad PD psych screening.
Having the cop not remember seeing his parents murdered was exremely implausible. Having the unsub change his victimology was ridiculous. There wasn’t enough happening to make this a two-parter, nevermind a season finale. Tim Curry was so wasted in this episode.
other than that, I liked it
Yeah, the premise that he was told his parents died in a car crash - well, that was believable as it is something grandparents might say to spare a kid’s memory and all.
But 5 minutes later, suddenly remembering every little detail from an incident 26 years ago? Really?
That was just stupid.
I actually stopped the DVR, turned to my SO and said, “Can you remember what we did last Friday?”
Plus, I really hate the “to be continued” BS on season finales. It is one thing to have a story line arc progress into the next season, but to have a single episode chopped into two? Needless and aggravating.
Have they ever not ended the season on a cliffhanger? (a quick Wiki search shows that yes, they did – once)
What drove me nuts was no one getting the idea that a killer who has been so incredibly mobile for the past 20-odd years – who has killed in all of the lower 48 states – just might be in an RV??
An insane serial killer tells you to give up your gun… so you figure, “Yeah, sure, I’ll do it. What could POSSIBLY go wrong?”
Presumably that’s ultimately how they’ll catch the guy. Also the elitist in me is annoyed that he’s not all that bright. A 20+ year spree and he’s never been suspected? Sigh. Where are the clever serial killers?
I also usually enjoy Criminal Minds but this was really really bad. Listen, writers: even 3 guest stars and a cliffhanger do not help, if you have a lame script.
Was talking to SimWife about this one -
a.) Morgan would never have given in
b.) This guy would never have left Morgan or the Sister alive
As for why they weren’t tracking him - until Penelope put it together, no one suspected the work of a serial killer was at play here - so I’ll give them that - it was only this latest spree that called attention to himself.
In talking with SimWife, we figured this would have made it better -
1.) Save the reveal that the cop was the first child left alive for the scene in the bedroom - the team at the cops station realize it at the same time the cop does at the sister’s house - they were headed there due to a cryptic call from the sister.
2.) Morgan never gives in, instead he’s brutally knocked out after the reveal, and we go to dark on the sound of a gunshot and the two women screaming (sister yelling don’t take her, take me, etc)
While the 2nd part is traditional - we felt this would have been a much better go to dark "cliffhanger’ - but really - folks that are watching the show don’t really need a cliffhanger to come back next season - we really don’t - we even came back when Inigo… I mean Gideon left.
simster just reminded me – does everyone else refer to older episodes as “Inigo Montoya episodes” and newer ones as “Fat Tony episodes”?
I do now, Hal.
Did they say he wasn’t bright? I remember they said he was uneducated, but I don’t recall them mentioning him not being bright.
Many serial killers are uneducated and the ones that move around can have 20 year sprees. Actually The Bike Path rapist never left town and didn’t get caught for over 20 years.
I have not seen the last episode but did catch the one where Penelope gets shot. It was very good and loved that she falls for the computer nerd at the end. Her would be assassin was also hot and I would have probably fell for him to.
It seems someone really likes Criminal Minds.
OMG, that’s hilarious!
(paraphrasing): “I don’t fucking care about a real live tornado killing real live people that aren’t me. There are fucking fictional people on a fucking fictional TV show being killed, and I’m missing it because of that damned tornado! Is Morgan gonna go kick that tornado’s ass? Is Reid going to start giving statistics on how many people are killed or injured by tornadoes each year? Is Penelope going to track the tornado? No, I don’t fuckin’ think so. Put my damned show back on!”
