Do you need any more reasons to watch this show than tonight’s episode title?
So far, better than last week, but nothing to mark this as an excellent episode. I love the fake Criss Angel clone at the beginning, though.

I love the fact that, since they got clearance to use the word “douchebag”, they’re craming it in as much as possible. Also, the Chief! Hee!
Excellent casting for the younger Charlie. I presume that was John Rubenstein’s son, Michael, since he was in the credits. He sounds just like his father.
Yes, they did say douchebag a lot.
Worrysome line of the night: “You know, magic is like crack.” Oh no no no nonononono! No it’s not. Magic is NOTHING like crack! If Kripke likes, it can be like lesbian sex, but do NOT use the words “Magic” and “Crack” that close together and expect me to be happy about it, damnit!
I just hope that if Sam’s hair turns black and he grows dark veins over his face, Dean will be able to think up a Crayola related memory from their childhood before Sam destroys the world.
Ahem. Anyways, good episode. Liked Barry Bostwick, liked the storyline, liked all the douchebag jokes. But, now I’m deeply curious to find out what Sam and Ruby are up to, and I don’t think an explaination will be coming anytime soon.
Depressing ending to an otherwise funny episode. I like it a lot more than last week’s episode. Of course Barry Bostwick is a favorite actor of mine. And the young guy at the end is a real familiar actor, one of those “I know I’ve seen him some place but I can’t for the life of me remember where.”
I thought it was a really great episode. Barry Bostwick was great; he went from depressed to excited back to depressed well.
I’m pretty sure the young guy was Michael Weston.
Criss Angel IS a douchebag! I can’t see him on tv without saying that, too, what with his rampant douchebaggery and all.
I reallly enjoyed this episode, and I really liked Barry Bostwick and the ending (yeah, that was no particular victory).
Except he was listed in the credits as Michael Rubenstein. Maybe the other Michael Rubenstein in SAG died and he’s going back to using that name?
I liked it too. Sam and Dean were pretty much supporting characters in this one, but it was fun. And I agree, Criss Angel is a douchebag.
I liked it overall, but I thought the pacing was off.
Also, I wanted to see more magic tricks. I thought all the exposition about Sam doing magic as a teenager and then claiming to be aspiring magicians as a cover was leading up to Sam having to do a magic act - hopefully with Dean as his charming assistant.
Huh… good to know the show gets some love on the SDMB. I just started watching; on disc 4 of S1 so far.
Anyone else starting to get some bad vibes from Ruby? I’m starting to think that her turning Sam into the Big Bad on the pretext of him saving the world is ole Yellow Eyes’ real endgame.
Starting to get bad vibes? I never had anything but. I think you may be right about the endgame. Not that we’ll find out any time soon.
I thought this episode was excellent - the terio of old magicians were really compelling. Barry Bostwick especially.
And when has Sam running off without Dean ever been a good thing? Sammy, quit being so stupid.
Yeah, solo adventures aren’t really Sam’s strong suit.
Oh, I meant to add: Troy, I bet some of us would be up for discussing some of the older Supernatural episodes – without spoiling you! I just finished watching Season 1, which I only saw parts of when it first aired. We started watching it regularly sometime during Season 2 (which I am now rewatching).
About Ruby-there’s something weird about the way the actress talks. I’m not trying to pick on her or make fun, but does it seem like she has some kind of slight speaking problem?
The three magicians were great. From the trailer I really expected it to be like “The Wizard of Gore”, an evil magician with real traps, but I was pleasantly surprised. And when Bostwick escaped them, I fell for his misdirection completely.
I’ve noticed that too – Ruby is a little mush-mouthed here and there.
If the Winchester boys ever stopped being stupid, I don’t know what the show would be about.
I don’t think she has a speech impediment, she just mumbles a lot and swallows half of her lines.
It was just an okay ep., but the title was fantastic.
Since no one’s mentioned it,
What a douchebag!
I don’t even know who this Criss Angel person is, but I know he’s a douchebag.
They need to do an episode on John Edward talking to the dead. He’s a douchebag too.
