Criterion Collection Flash Sale

Just a heads-up for any film fans and collectors: Criterion is running a 50% off sale on all in-stock items at their online store - the promo code to enter is FLASHY; only good until noon tomorrow and only on in-stock items (DVD & Blu-ray). Note the sale is 50% off the SRP, not the usual online price, so something priced ordinarily at $39.95 SRP and sold for $31.96 will get you a sale price of $19.97 (not $15.98) – still cheaper than the average Amazon price for most titles.

They have a dashboard set up to show time remaining as well as “Selling Fast” and “Running Low” items.

Good to know, but remember that Hulu Plus has 500+ Criterion titles available for streaming. AFAIK, only the newest titles are not included.

Yep, and I wonder how much that has contributed to Criterion’s trying to get more sales through their own store. Their prices are not usually competitive with other online stores (Amazon, DVD Empire, etc.) – heck, even Barnes & Noble runs Criterion sales occasionally.

But for anybody still collecting physical discs, it’s a good opportunity to stock up.

Thanks for the heads up, Ed.

I picked up 5 excellent films:

Black Mask
Crumb
House
For All Mankind
Videodrome

I’ve been wanting the CC of the last 3 for some time, but they weren’t a priority at $30.

Now I just have to wait until next month to get Repo Man and Two Lane Blacktop.

It was funny browsing the films and noting “already have it, already have that, got that” for so many of them. By now I’m pretty sure that at least one Criterion employee’s wages for a week were paid solely by my purchases. :stuck_out_tongue:

I am, and I could easily drop a big bundle on some of those, but they’d all be double dips or blind buys, and I’m trying to avoid those as much as I can.

I was about to pull the trigger on the Yojimbo/Sanjuro blu-ray box set… but by the time shipping and tax came in, it was pretty much the same as Amazon. With slower shipping. Probably just as well…

No prob, Bo. Yeah, I was disappointed to see Repo Man was a pre-order and not eligible for the sale. Like you, I picked up a few titles that had been wish-list but lower priority for me.

I know what you mean. I’m trying to avoid double-dipping as well, especially for titles I already own on DVD, but sometimes the remastering or extras added to the blu-ray makes that all the harder.

Yeah, you have to watch the tax/shipping on some of these. The sale is better suited for those looking to buy more than a couple of titles (standard shipping is free for orders over $50).
