Critical1: the bizarre MELONFARMER who intentionally misspells the name of every GoT character

It’s cunt-basket, milkfountain!

See, this is what happens when you find a stranger in the alps.

Ewe whin!

I believe the correct term is “Doctor Whom”

That depends on whether the Doctor is the subject or the object of the sentence.

One of my dearest hopes is that, when Doctor Who ends and they have their big finale episode, it is revealed that the character’s surname is, in fact, “Who.” Just for the fanboy outrage that will result.

I hate Grammar Nazi’s.

I’m actually suspicious of anyone who manages to consistently spell all the names correctly. It’s kinda scary.

You hate grammar Nazi’s what?

I’m part of a guerilla grammar group, and we’ve been known to correct notices at work.
Our next PAPI (Passive-Aggressive Post-It) will be signed:

“The” Punctuation Nazi’s

Why, are the shows credits somehow supposed to be ‘in universe’?

I think it’s pretty obvious they are not. Because they speak of beings such as “Director” and “Camera Men” who clearly do not exist in the reality of Planetos. They’re obviously some additions made by whoever is curating theses historical recordings for our benefit. Which is nice of them, but doesn’t make them the Font of Truth or anything.

So unless and until we’ve seen a clearly written out (or orally spelled out) instance of a character’s name during the actual recording, I’d say there’s no definitive “correct” spelling.

(Now let me get back to my Teeriawn/Brawn slash fic…)

They already did that in the last season finale:

Shouldn’t NAZI be all caps?

+1
and
a good chuckle.

You only have to spend half a second looking it up once, then you know the correct spelling forever forward. People spend hours posting theories in those threads, week after week, for all of GoT season, mentioning the characters many times. It’s OK to get it right.

As I pointed out about Critical1, he’s especially irksome to me for the fact that he uses the same misspellings consistently, acknowledges he knows he’s wrong, but continues to use them.

I think anyone who’s read the books is familiar with the spellings. Even if you’re not though, most people in the discussions are spelling them correctly, so you can just go with that. Critical1 stubbornly refuses to do so, because he fancies himself some kind of snowflake.

Can you figure out what character he’s talking about even if he’s spelling the name incorrectly?
A) Yes - Then just shut the hell up and quit whining.
B) No - Then put him on ignore and shut the hell up and quit whining.

Wait, they’re not all named, “Dirty White Guy” or “Dirty White Naked Chick”?

Kouldn’t Kare Lass.

Leave Britical alone!

It’s a show about incest, dragons and tits. The books are about incest, dragons and underage tits. Get the fuck on with your life.

Personally I find the misspellings of names distracting, and it does make reading the thread bumpier for me. However, if someone is misspelling a name because they just don’t know the right spelling, then the distraction is my problem, not theirs, and I would never correct them unless I had reason to believe they would welcome the factual knowledge.

But: If someone is misspelling a name on purpose as a cheeky snark, then they are purposefully reducing the enjoyment of fellow posters, and that’s just not cool. Stop doing that.

Regarding the distraction/annoyance factor. Imagine you were reading a thread about WWII, and someone was discussing the Battle of the Bulge.

Because you are familiar with the names in this piece of history, the above few sentences are a pain in the brain to read. Collectively, we’d never allow a whole thread about historical facts to go on like that. The GoT thread is about historical fiction, but for those familiar with the names involved, it’s just as painful to read as the above WWII example.

So, I’m fully with Rigamarole that it’s annoying and I wish people tried harder. I would never pressure anyone to do so if they aren’t interested, because they don’t have to be interested and I don’t have to read the thread.

But, if they are doing it on purpose, then they are simply being bullies.

Critical1: Are you doing it on purpose? If so, please stop.
