This is a tale that comes from the SDMB discussions of Game of Thrones, but you don’t really need to be a GoT fan or have ever watched the show to recognize the strangeness of this poster.
Whether or not you have ever been involved in the discussions or care about GoT, you are probably aware that GoT is a big cultural phenomenon, and there are plenty of people here on the SDMB that like to discuss it. Critical1 is one of the posters who has been heavily involved in the discussion for years. And I fully acknowledge that a lot of the characters in the series have strangely-spelled names, like “Daenerys Targaryen”, “Jaime Lannister”, or “Ramsay Bolton”.
Critical1 has this quirk where he prefers to purposely misspell the name of almost every single character. Every time. He consistently misspells them in the same way. And he’s been corrected many times (I probably did that more than anyone, and I concede to being perhaps excessively pedantic about it in the past, but others have as well). Even though he has acknowledged posts offering corrections, he insists his misspellings are “better” spellings than the correct ones, so he continues to use them.
As a pedant and hardcore fan, of course this really bugs me. But mostly it is his arrogance and willful ignorance that bugs me. Why do you think you are special enough to warrant your own unique spelling of every character’s name, even though you know you’re wrong? Really, what is your fucking deal?

Calling other posters “motherfuckers” is against the board rules. Normally, I’d just post a note, but dance you managed to put it right there in the thread title, I’ve edited it in the traditional fashion.
Please avoid doing this again. No warning issued.

Pointless pitting. Game of Thrones is goofy fun, both the books and the show, but I’ve never understood why this show gets people so spun up on the Dope. I can’t remember, did people get this worked up about Hercules and Xena when they first aired?
Goddamn spelling Wardens ruining shit. How far up your asses does the giant stick go? No, I am not spending ten minutes a post looking up GRRM’s ridiculous spelling conventions to soothe any of y’all pendantic sqozed anuses. Lighten the fuck up.
Is he following the naming conventions used on some other board? I remember it was a common thing on Television Without Pity to give the characters on a show nicknames. It’s an often used way of separating the newbies from the regulars.
Nice that you’ve opened this thread. It so happens that I can’t give a shit about how GoT names are spelled as long as I understand whom they’re refering to, but I’m quite fed up with the numerous posts correcting spelling mistakes in GoT names. It would appreciate it if you could quit doing that.
