Critical1: the bizarre MELONFARMER who intentionally misspells the name of every GoT character

This is a tale that comes from the SDMB discussions of Game of Thrones, but you don’t really need to be a GoT fan or have ever watched the show to recognize the strangeness of this poster.

Whether or not you have ever been involved in the discussions or care about GoT, you are probably aware that GoT is a big cultural phenomenon, and there are plenty of people here on the SDMB that like to discuss it. Critical1 is one of the posters who has been heavily involved in the discussion for years. And I fully acknowledge that a lot of the characters in the series have strangely-spelled names, like “Daenerys Targaryen”, “Jaime Lannister”, or “Ramsay Bolton”.

Critical1 has this quirk where he prefers to purposely misspell the name of almost every single character. Every time. He consistently misspells them in the same way. And he’s been corrected many times (I probably did that more than anyone, and I concede to being perhaps excessively pedantic about it in the past, but others have as well). Even though he has acknowledged posts offering corrections, he insists his misspellings are “better” spellings than the correct ones, so he continues to use them.

As a pedant and hardcore fan, of course this really bugs me. But mostly it is his arrogance and willful ignorance that bugs me. Why do you think you are special enough to warrant your own unique spelling of every character’s name, even though you know you’re wrong? Really, what is your fucking deal?

Calling other posters “motherfuckers” is against the board rules. Normally, I’d just post a note, but dance you managed to put it right there in the thread title, I’ve edited it in the traditional fashion.

Please avoid doing this again. No warning issued.

Kould Kare Lass. Weke soase.

Where does he stand on calling the protagonist of Doctor Who “Doctor Who”?

Pointless pitting. Game of Thrones is goofy fun, both the books and the show, but I’ve never understood why this show gets people so spun up on the Dope. I can’t remember, did people get this worked up about Hercules and Xena when they first aired?

Could be worse. Does Critical1 insist on throwing shit in quarry?

BTW, it’s Zena.

Well played.

Some paranoiacs purposely misspell the name of their subjects so the content isn’t listed via search query…

No. Cheap, obvious, and even embarrassing. But I do want to give a shout out to the motherfarmer who gave us melonfucker. That’s gold right there.

Goddamn spelling Wardens ruining shit. How far up your asses does the giant stick go? No, I am not spending ten minutes a post looking up GRRM’s ridiculous spelling conventions to soothe any of y’all pendantic sqozed anuses. Lighten the fuck up.

Is he following the naming conventions used on some other board? I remember it was a common thing on Television Without Pity to give the characters on a show nicknames. It’s an often used way of separating the newbies from the regulars.

A Melon Farmer? I didn’t even know that was still a thing, let alone a perjorative.

Carry on then.

Keep up, Mister Falcon.

Herakles.

I dunno, but that was back before it turned out that Kevin Sorbo is a cuntbasket.

Nice that you’ve opened this thread. It so happens that I can’t give a shit about how GoT names are spelled as long as I understand whom they’re refering to, but I’m quite fed up with the numerous posts correcting spelling mistakes in GoT names. It would appreciate it if you could quit doing that.

Did you think there were no more melons? Or did you think the production no longer required farmers? I’m confused.

I thought we hit the melonlarity at some point and all the melon-related jobs (up to and including being the melons) were done by robots.

Have people been spelling Dragons McBoob with two g’s, and Shorty O’Stab with a i?
