Some of you may have already heard this, but I saw no previous thread, and I just got wind of it: Crowded House has reunited, will go on tour and release a new album this year.
So one of my favorite bands is back in business. Not that the Finn boys really went away, and I don’t know if missing Paul Hester will make a big difference, but it’s nice to know that there’s a new CH album on the way. Maybe some folks who missed out on them the first time around will discover how good they were (presumably still are).
yay! I love Crowded House, Split Enz, and have seen them all in various guises over the years. Actually met Nick, Neil and Paul when I was 17 and have a piece of the Temple of Low Men canvas painted by Nick
Saw the brothers at the Opera House last year. It was magic and they were supported by Mercury Rev, a completely amazing experience.
Well, having seen Crowded House live, I’d have to say Paul Hester’s absence will make a huge difference. Not just because of his singing and playing, but because he was hilarious onstage. I remember his banter more than the music. Still, it’s good news.
True. I saw them at an in-store show in SF about 10 years ago, and Paul was a real life of the party type. A real shame he’s gone.
Nevertheless, I’m excited, because while I’ve liked Neil’s solo and Finn Bros. work, it still has a different vibe from the CH albums. I hope having Nick on board will help bring some of that old feeling back.
I remember a New Year’s Eve concert at Darling Harbour in Sydney, i think it was probably 1989 or '90. I saw Hunters and Collectors, followed by Crowded House, followed by a reunited Split Enz.
Very true. I caught them in Dallas during the Woodface tour, and Neil seemed pretty somber throughout (IIRC, Tim had called it quits and walked out the night before – some other guy was playing the child’s toy keyboard/harmonica thingy and wearing Tim’s jacket). But Paul lightened the tone somewhat by indulging in a bit of crowd diving. He was a little ball of bright energy.
