Does anybody here love dry cereal like I do? I never, ever, EVER ate cereal with milk when I was a kid. Neither did my sister. Every time I saw a commercial which touted the crispy-in-milk characteristics of the cereal, my thought was, so what? Doesn’t help me.
yep. haven’t had a bowl of cereal with milk since grade school (a verrrrry long time ago). Don’t like the taste of milk, can’t see what good it would do on cereal.
Well that might be easy if you’re eating chocolate covered frosted sugar bombs or some such nonsense, but try eating muesli dry. That powder shit draws all the moisture out of your mouth so fast… It ain’t nice.
I was busy nibbling on dry golden grahams when I opened your thread! I’m a busy mom, and if I put milk in my cereal, that is the cue for ALL HELL TO BREAK LOOSE AROUND ME UNTIL THE CEREAL LOOKS LIKE PRE-DIGESTED MUSH. I am not superstitious, but I don’t eat cereal with milk very often. Eating dry cereal does nothing to avert the chaos around here, but I still cherish my happy delusion that it MIGHT help.
It depends on the cereal. For Basic 4, it must be eaten quickly - no mush allowed. For Cap’n Crunch (with or without Crunchberries) I like them to get a little al dente before I eat them. I’l stir them to distribute the milk as well.
I like my cereal extra soggy and have always been puzzled by the “stays crunchy in milk” line. I always that the reason to pour milk on top was to make it soggy.
The only cereal I will put milk on is cheerios. I won’t put it on froot loops, or golden grahms, or french toast crunch. I sometimes put it on cocoa krispies only because they turn it into chocolate milk.
I can’t eat dry cereal. Even as a snack. It just dries my mouth out something fierce. It needs the moisture of a liquid to keep it from caking on my teeth.
Tabitha - a real simple solution to your problem is to look the offender straight in the eye and say “I am EATING. I’ll be with you when I’m done.”
The thing that always puzzled the hell out of me was the habit of dumping the milk after you’re finished the cereal. People, please! Don’t you realize all the flavor and other stuff that was stuck to the cereal has now been absorbed by the milk? It’s got extra flavors now and is even yummier! What the hell is with you?!
Bwahahahahahahahahahahahah!!!
Try that with a 4 + 6 year old and they’ll pause for a second in bewilderment before going back to whatever felony they have in progress.
I think the scenario Tabitha has is oh, I don’t know,:
child A pouring BLEACH onto child B’s EYEBALLS while B lays on a pile of your silk blouses just back from the cleaners:eek:.
Sumthin’ like that huh?
I haven’t eaten cereal regularly in years (this might be why I haven’t been regular in. . . nevermind), but when I do, I always put milk in.
I don’t know about now, but a few years ago Cocoa Puffs were almost inedible. They were hard as rocks. Like eating a bowlful of chocolate-flavored gravel in the morning. And every couple of months there would be a new commercial that said “NOW EVEN CRUNCHIER!!!” Sugar isn’t the only danger to your teeth when eating breakfast cereal.
I can’t stand soggy cereal and will only eat that which stays srunchy in milk…
Never, never dump the leftover milk out. I have cats… I donate it to them. Each cat takes a turn at the bowl, and when the felines are done, Dogzilla(IRL) get to “do the dishes.” We all love milk in cereal at my house.
I cannot stand putting milk on cereal. It makes
hot cereal cold and cold cereal soggy. I eat hot
cereal with nuts and/or dried fruit, and cold
cereal with yoghurt.
